Please help... connectivity issues

Every once in awhile, I would lose internet and have to reboot everything (modem - Netgear CM1200 & router - Nighthawk R7000) to get back online. Maybe every few weeks, never checked modem reports or anything. Suddenly, as of Sunday (10/20) I am losing connection multiple times a day. I work from home, and it is destroying my ability to work. 

On Sunday, there was apparently a Comcast worker somewhere in the area, and that explained my initial issues I guess. But after they finished their work yesterday, is when I am now experiencing multiple disconnections and having to restart my equipment repeatedly. A Comcast tech came out today and replaced the single splitter I have with one that lowers the power signal a bit, but the issues has continued since then. 

 

I am a bit tech savy, but more on the software side. Most of what follows has me stumped. FYI: I only have one splitter between the modem and the incoming line (and that splitter was replaced with a new one today as described above). I have the "Enable Extended Upstream Transmit Power" box checked as it was checked by default when I setup the modem.

I will add, it is frustrating when Comcast over the phone and the tech who came to my house tell me everything looks good. Of course it looks good when it is up, running, and connected. When its down and I call, they tell me to restart my equipment because they can't see it, and of course it connects when I do, and then they tell me everything looks good again. I'm not complaining about the quality of service when I can stay connected. 

 

They are doing zero for me related to the exact moment the connection goes from good to broken. Part of their claim is its not their modem, so they can't say its a problem on their end. Well, everything on my end was working pretty well (for months) until they worked on the lines yesterday.

Even though the signal stats looked o/k at that snapshot in time, the error log entries confirm that something is going on. Perhaps there is noise ingress into the line(s) somewhere.

 

There are other signal stat figures that can't be read by the modem. They are the "Upstream Rx Power" (Upstream Receive Power Level), the "Upstream SNR Ch." (Upstream Signal To Noise Ratio), and the "Upstream ICFR" (In Channel Frequency Response). These are as equally important in diagnosing connectivity issues as are the modem's stats.


I'm going to escalate your issue to the Comcast corporate employees that are available to these boards. They can check the CMTS (Cable Modem Termination System) for any real time degradation and / or error reports, see your node / cable plant and modem health, and see whether or not everything is in the green zone. They can also see a history plot for the modem and poll for those upstream receive signal stats.
