Paying for gigabit only getting 320mbps
I work from home and my job requires over 500mbps due to constant video conferencing from all over the world, many internet browser windows open simultaneously, and multiple programs open at one time. I had a comcast service tech come out today due to internet speeds fluctuating and not getting near gig speeds. He told me to back my gigabit speed down to 500 mbps because I would never reach gigabit speeds. I have the comcast upgraded modem and still not hitting those speeds. any way I can reach those speeds?

What do the modem's signal stats look like ? Try getting them here http://192.168.100.1 or here http://10.0.0.1
Please post the *Downstream Power Level*, the *Upstream Power Level*, and the *SNR* (Signal to Noise Ratio) numbers.
What is the exact make and model number of the modem ?
Is this a WiFi connection ?

Can't see your pic. Since you are a new poster, it needs to be approved by a Forum Admin. That could take some time. In the interim you could try hosting it at one of those free third-party pic hosting sites like Imgur or Photobucket and post the link to it here.

Just curious what platform you are using to measure speed. I have read you can't use a web based tester to get accurate speeds. You have to download the Ookla module to get a real speed number. When I use web based systems I measure in the high 200's when I use the Ookla module I get 640.

measuring against any other server when using the Ookla speedtest do you get speeds higher than those you get testing against the Comcast server?

So the problem is definately on your end then. Does the speed level improve late at night when most people in your area are off their systems? It is my understanding that we share the line and so when there is heavy use from others on the same line which could be any number of homes or offices in your area then it pulls speed from your system. Hopefully tier 2 or 3 can solve this.

The signal stats are o/k but there are other signal stat figures that can't be read by the modem. They are the "Upstream Rx Power" (Upstream Receive Power Level), the "Upstream SNR Ch." (Upstream Signal To Noise Ratio), and the "Upstream ICFR" (In Channel Frequency Response). These are as equally important in diagnosing connectivity / speed issues as are the modem's stats.
I'm going to escalate your issue to the Comcast corporate employees that are available to these boards. They will be able to poll the CMTS to see whether or not everything is in the green zone, see your node / cable plant and modem health, and also see a history plot for the modem. You should get a reply here in your topic. Good luck !
