Packet loss and Ping spikes

Hi,

 

I've been experiencing packet loss and ping spikes over the past few months when trying to play online games. This didn't use to be the case, it been getting worse in worse over the last 2-3 months.

Im using an ethernet cable, but still have bad packet loss and ping spikes.

 

It gets worse when someone is streaming netflix or the like, but still happens when Im the only one home using the internet. Also If I try to watch twitch on my phone when gaming it wont even load at times, and I have to disable wifi and use my mobile data. Imagine it wokring on mobile lte but not on wifi.

 

We have a basic package with 25 down and 2.5 up. Speed tests confirm this with 26-30 mps down and 2.5 up with 1 ms jitter and 18 ms ping. Ping tests seem to show steady values of ping then random huge spikes into the 100s ( 400 or 500).

 

I have this image from pingplotter, but it was tested when no one was using the internet except me browsing. (no streaming or gaming). Im not sure how to read it properly or what it indicates either.

Im not too well versed in these matters..our modem router is Netgear CG3000DV2.

I called comcast several times but they want to charge a $70 fee for a service call, and I can't spend money freely so I need to make sure its needed first, or maybe we just need to upgrade the service.
