Mocca question

What exactly is Mocca. Please do not post any links because I read many articles about it and they are all written in technical lingo which I don't understand.  If someone can explain what it is in lament terms that would be great.  It is disabled by default on wireless gatway. So in which casaes does it need to be enabled?

Thanks.

MoCA (Multimedia over Coax Alliance) is a method of transferring data over coaxial cable. Comcast uses it with some of the X1 equipment. Customers sometimes use MoCA to establish a wired Ethernet connection where coax is available but it isn't practical to run Ethernet cable.

What is the model number of the gateway? It should be printed on a label on the back or bottom of the device.
