I gig speed

Hey guys I have 1G service and with 2 Win10 PC's I get 1G profromance. Both systems are wired not WI-Fi.

Newest Xfinity phone/internet modem. I have no more inputs on  the modem to use my hard drive back  ups. I have a Netgear router with USB and the Hard Drives for Back up's, when I  use  that it cuts my speed in half  for d/l. Tried a switch but no where to plug the USA drives  in.

Any ideas and thanks

Routers make notororiously lousy USB Storage hosts as your'e already taxing the CPU for your router/switch functions, then tacking on the extra overhead of a Storage server.

Suggestions:

  1. If those PCs are constantly on, you could connect the USB hard drive to one of them and share the drive on your network so you can use it as backup.
  2. Invest in a NAS (Network attached Storage) drive.
  3. There are a few settings in Netgear routers that interfere with networking speed: QoS , security software, and also a built in speed test functionality.  Try turning those off if you can.
