Highly variable download speeds between devices

I have Xfinity Gigabit service. I just did a speed test with my MacBook Pro about 10 ft. from the router. I got only ~85 Mbps. I then did a speed test with my iPhone 11, and got 400 Mbps, which is more in line with what I'd expect.

I checked the xFi app and both devices are connected to the Gateway.

I repeated this test a few times, and while the numbers differed slightly, the MacBook Pro was consistently quite a lot lower in download speed than my iPhone. Shouldn't it be the opposite?

Do you have an Xfinity gateway? I have Gbps service also and recently got the Xfinity gateway with pods. My speeds were all over the place, as low as 33 Mbps a lot. Tech came out and there was no boot file or something when I moved to the Xfinity gateway. New gateway and provisioned it, now my speeds are around 300 Mbps most of the time.

Yes, I have an Xfinity gateway (the XB6). An Xfinity tech has been out twice to check everything, and they say it's all fine on their end.

For a test, what do you get on the Macbook Pro when it is hardwired directly to the XB6 device with an ethernet cable ?
