1.2Tb wired data Cap in January?

Hello,
Is 1.2Tb data Cap in January real for wired customers? Or rumor?

I really hope not. Since I need the connection for work, I stream 2x 1080 sources through Teradicci remote workstations and I regularly use more than 1.4Tb in a month. We already pay $100 per month for service.

I've been happy with this service for several years now, but I am not willign to pay $25 extra for nothing.  At that point, it would actually be cheaper/better for us to get internet through cell service, since we already pay for phones, and it would cost less than $100 per month for us to upgrade to unlimited 5g, so we could just shift that expense to our cell provider.
Thanks for any info.

Guys I have a tv triple bundle and am in NJ. My internet includes the gigabit speed. With com ast data caps looming overhead, is there an option now to start paying extra for unlimited that is less than $100/month or is that the only way to now get unlimited?

Not sure where you got the $100 from, it may not be available in your area yet

This is exactly what I was looking for. I had heard there was an unlimited add on. I got the $100 from the terms that say they will charge $10 per 50gb with a max of $100 per month. Thank you. If I have to lay $30 extra now that still hurts but better than $100. 1.2tb is not reasonable anymore with all of us working and learning at home along with 4K streaming. I also have a full tv bundle with them and feel I am being Punished for their objective to recoup money they are losing from cord cutters.

Just an even playing field now with those of us that have had a cap of some kind for over a decade

Yeah I understand. But the $30/month surcharge takes you out of that right?

Hi. Let's get straight to the point.

Since everyone is moving to a capped internet plan next year, I'm looking into upgrading to Unlimited Internet plan for $30 per month. I'm having a hard time finding the exact details on how it will work though. Reading an article on arstechnica, they state this:

"Comcast is trying to give customers in newly capped markets an incentive to upgrade to unlimited data before the caps actually go into effect. It's a bit convoluted: customers who sign up for unlimited data in December or January will have the $30 unlimited-data charge waived until June, the Comcast spokesperson told Ars. People who sign up for unlimited data in February or March would be charged the extra $30 fee starting in April."

I can't find anything official on this. Can someone confirm, or better yet, link to something showing in writing, that if go ahead and add the Unlimited option now, the charge won't kick in until June?

I assume it's related to waved overages for a few months for customers in newly affected areas, just can't find any fine print or anything confirming it. The page many articles link to (Including Comcast's own support article) where we can supposedly add the Unlimited option, tells me "The product you’re interested in isn’t available for purchase at this time". Maybe someone has a better link?

Thanks!

Hello drumn_bass. Thank you for creating a post on our Forum.

For users who typically use more than 1.2 TB of data per month or who don't want to pay for overages, we offer an Unlimited Data option. The Unlimited Data Option costs an additional $30 per month. This fee is independent from your actual data usage. The Terabyte Internet Data Usage Plan will not apply to customers who enroll in the Unlimited Data Option.

Enrollment goes into effect immediately upon signing up for the Unlimited Data option and applies to the entire month in which you sign up. For example, if you call to enroll in the Unlimited Data option on November 14, your enrollment in the Unlimited Data option starts November 14 and applies to your data usage for the entire month of November. Overages incurred during the month of November won't be billed separately.

If you cancel the Unlimited Data option, the charge will be removed from the bill which covers the next calendar month. For example, if you call to cancel the Unlimited Data option on November 14, you'll still be enrolled in the plan until the last day of November and will not be billed for any overages in the month of November. The Unlimited Data option will be removed from your account on December 1 and the 1.2 Terabyte Internet Data Usage Plan will then go into effect for the month of December going forward.

If you would like assistance with getting signed up for Unlimited Data, please reach out to me via private message and include your full name and service address so I can access your account.

Hi @ComcastJoeTru

Thank you for the reply, but unfortunately it doesn't answer my question at all, correct me if I'm wrong, but it's just a copy and paste from the Unlimited Data support page.

How about the actual question of when the billing starts for users that sign up in December? Or is the answer is that there is actually nothing like that offered and if I sign up now, I will be billed right away? This doesn't make sense as there are no overages to be worried about until April anyway.

BGR

"If you regularly use up more than 1.2TB of data a month, you can upgrade to an unlimited data plan. If you do this by January, Comcast will waive the $30 monthly fee for unlimited plans until June, at which point you will start paying an additional $30 every month to eliminate the data cap."

So a couple of places are saying it like it's a known offer... but it's a bit alarming that no one here seems to know about it 😬

I just want to make sure it is the case, because if it is I will add the Unlimited plan now, but if not, I can wait a few more months.

The way I read it is if you're in the newly affected area [the area that just got the 1.2TB cap] and you sign up for unlimited before the cap goes into effect, then you won't be charged the $30 until June.  If you sign up for Xfi Complete you won't be charged the $11 extra until June.

Does that help?

Thanks @Again

It does help in the way... this is how I read it too, so it's a confirmation that I'm not misunderstanding what I'm reading. My concern is that I can't find any mentioning of this anywhere on Comcas't website, and no Comcast reps seem to know anything about it. It's a concern because I don't know if this is a real offer or just something that some "spokesperson" said, with no official confirmation. I'm hesitating to jump in without seeing something in writing first. You know how people say "you should always read the fine print"... well that's what I'm trying to do here, I just can't find that fine print to read.

I am in a newly affected market. Ready to add that Unlimited plan now if the June thing is real. If not or no one can't confirm, I might as well wait and see. Maybe we can stay under the limit (some months we do, some don't), maybe explore other options... who knows what can happen between now and April.

I came here wondering the same thing. I read various articles saying that if we signed up for the unlimted service in December 2020 the extra $30 fee would be waived until June. It would not be right to sign up now if we are just going to have the charge start right away since it wouldn't take effect until April anyway so we would basically be throwing away $90. I see nothing official anywhere from Comcast that states that his is true. Only the same quote from above from a  spokesperson in various articles on the internet. Can someone from Comacst actaully clarify of this is true?

Starting January 1, 2021, we'll be introducing a new 1.2 Terabyte (TB) Internet Data Plan for all Xfinity Internet customers (excluding Gigabit Pro, Pre-Paid and Bulk Internet customers) in the Northeast Division.

You are unable to purchase the Unlimited Data option at this time as the system still recognizes that you have no data usage plan that would require additional data. You can sign up for the Unlimited Data Plan the day this change takes effect. Additionally, when a customer adds the Unlimited Data Plan, the change takes effect immediately. There is no way for us to "delay" charging you for that addition to your package until a date of your choosing.

I hope this addresses all of your concerns. You will notice that I have also merged your questions with our larger thread on this same topic.

For additional information on the Unlimited Data options, please see here:

Please let us know if you have any additional questions or concerns related to this change.

Ok guys... I still think it's weird there is nothing official from Comcast on this offer (refresher: Some sources claim if the unlimited data option is added in December or January, there will no charge for it until June 2021). I asked here and the answer, that everyone accepted as a correct one looks like, was that the billing would start as soon as the plan added. Just now I tried this link again (it didn't work for me before): xfinity.com/buy/plan/checkout/XFINUDAT, it asked me to sign in to my account, and then I'm presented with...

THIS:

Equipment & Services
Xfinity Internet Unlimited Data

View Usage Detail at www.xfinity.com/usagemeter

Included for 6 months, then regular rates apply (currently $30.00 per month)

$0.00/mo
Due Today
No payment necessary now.

***
So 6 months at $0 per month... that will mean no billing until June. Now the question is... Why is there no fine print or any other official information on this? When does this promotional period end? Since the offer clearly does exist, I'm hoping that Comcast reps/admins can dig in a bit deeper and find us the actual terms of it.

Please and thank you!

Also. If my billing cycle starts on the first of every month, when does it make the most sense to add the plan? The first day of the billing cycle? If added in the middle of the month, does a feature backdates to the beginning of the billing cycle?
