Wireless TV connections and effect on internet data usage

I have one TV connected by cable to the Xfinity DVR, and several more that connect wirelessly.  When the wireless TV's are operating, do they use internet data, or do they connect to the DVR box and the data is only moving internal to the home network.  Trying to determine why internet usage is so high?
