My Wifi Gateway just connected to my Wifi Gateway? Huh?

I just received an Xfi notification that my ARRIS TG1682G gateway connected to my Wifi. How can my wifi router connect to itself and why is Xfi sending me this?

Same thing happened to me but the Mac address is different from my router. So it might be Comcast doing some sort of maintenance. I might call them and try to figure it out.

I just now received that same message via text it seems very suspicious xfinity does regular maintenance and I’ve never received such a message before idk but I immediately paused it not sure what’s going on but I’m very cautious about things like this due to having everything in my home connected to the wifi

Probably means the gateway got a firmware update and xFi recognized it as a new connection.

Their Advanced Security feature has recently been pushed to their gateway devices via a firmware update whether you want it or not, hence the hypochondriac notices. It's buggy.
