Streaming on a PC: How many years do we have to wait for Comcast to give us a replacement to Flash?

I am pessimistic about Comcast continuing streaming to non-mobile devices like PC's.   If they cared Comcast would not force their customers to have to deal with all the popup's required for a Flash session since the whole industry has accepted the demise of Flash becuase of securtity weaknesses.

Via forums like this we have been asking for years for a response from Comcast.   In my world my PC type devices are just as important to me as my TV cable boxes.  Comcast has discontinued legacy Windows 10 apps and Xbox apps with no mention of replacements.   There are more than enough Windows 10 machines to justify a solutuon and it is now even easier for Comcast since Microsoft has released Beta versions of the new Chromium based Edge broswer that is pretty stable and would support HTML5 video. Chromium is cross platform and would be cost effective for a solution.

How about a real response Comcast?

Why should we believe Comcast?

Where is the sense behind Comcast continuing to inflict usability pain with the existing solution? Major browsers have disabled Flash by default and made it annoying by design to manually enable and use Flash.

As an IT guy who has worked for major software companies I know that Comcast Product and Program Management would be very aware of this.  This late in the Adobe Flash lifecycle when Comcast has had years to build a replacement I can only assume that the design goal of non response with a replacement or a corporate statement to committing to PC's stream is meant to reduce and kill support for the platform.

How do you know Robert and why do you have faith in them?  Their answer for streaming is to push you to mobile devices where they have existing apps for iOS and Android.

Show me an existing Comcast statement where they commit to PC streaming ?

@StuartSchifter @RobertWy

I fired up Chrome navigated to the xfinity stream webpage yesterday. There was a little notice asking me if  would like to disable Flash I clicked yes.  Streaming is now working fine without it in both Chrome and Firefox, I haven't tried Edge yet. I'm in the Chicago area, not sure if Comcast is rolling it out slowly. I've since uninstalled Adobe Flash and blocked Flash in both browsers just to make double sure.

The only hiccup was once from the menu page I think it was a suggestion for you link it tried to take me to the Flash set-up page I hit the back button then scrolled down the menu to the same content and launched it from there and it played fine.

A bit more patience it's coming soon just don't be suprized if it takes a bit to excize left over warts.

Big EDIT

Are you stating that you have disabled FLASH and it will stream via browser on the existing site?

I’ll try Google Chrome later and test. Wow, I can’t believe it. Was getting so frustrated with all the popups and ok presses

Where is their published formal commitment.  Flash deprication has been known for years.  Every Windows app pretty much has been killed.

I don't get why you're convinced? Show me the commitment

I'm convinced because I am Streaming right now without Flash, all day yesterday as well on my Windows 10 pc. I highly doubt I've been randomly singled out. Hopefully others in my area will notice and chime in. Not sure Comcast will comment unless it's available everywhere..perhaps it is and no one's noticed yet.. I'm using the latest versions of Chrome Version 76.0.3809.100 (Official Build) (64-bit) and Firefox Version 68.0.1 (64-bit) I'm still on Windows 10 Version 1809, not 1903.

Have a good day

On my Windows tablet with Edge Chromium it still requires flash. Legacy Edge also requires flash

https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/xfinity-flex-overview provides a more concise description of the Flex service. It states that Flex requires "A Streaming TV Box (Xi6 device)". This hardly addresses the OP's concern about streaming on devices which currently use Flash (i.e., Windows PCs and laptops). I see no provision in Flex to provide streaming for these devices.

The lastest Google Chrome did not work with Flash disabled.  Hopefully they will release updates to the south east region soon.

Nonsense. You just haven't closed your Chrome session (which is not just simply closing a window). Xfinity streaming via a browser STILL REQUIRES FLASH. Which is ridiculous.

the flash module is for verifying the HDCP (security) not for streaming. Comcast has announced that Flash will be replaced by the end of 2020.

It hardly matters exactly how Flash is being used: as long as Comcast requires it, they are making customer's systems less secure.
