x1 box after update in idle mode when i shut it down

x1 boxes use to actually power off ,now after this update my tv is always on. i turn off my x1 power box and its in constant screen saver mode. whats the point of having the power down feature if its only going idle. also when i ask reps about this they usually have no clue and send me a new box and they all do the same thing.

unfortunately it did the same. i think its a manufactor setting. when you power it down it starts showing the news, the time and theres a leaf beside it showing power save.

The X1 remote is supposed to turn your TV off.  How are you still seeing the screen saver?

Try programming the remote with this:

Re: x1 box after update in idle mode when i shut it down

Yes, I noticed the same thing that after the recent update that added the screen saver options to the STB that I now have to power down the TV as they keep the HDMI port active which provides the TV the signal.   It is an annoying change that comcast has made, there have been a number of reported items in the forums related to it.  I wish that when I hit power off on the remote that the STB  would really power off totally.  I don't care how little power the STB uses I would like it to be totally off.  The "ghost power" usage in the average home across the country, that products use, is anywhere between 20-25% of  power that people use each month.  This is according to a study that was done a year or so ago. So the power companies love the fact that everything is  instant on.

the most power (DVR) savings if box is in standby is $1 / year if box is in standby 24/7/365. if box is completely powered off you have to manually turn it off since remote controls would not be working and no local recordings could be made. they make remote control wireless power plugs you could use to turn off the set top box if that is what you really want.

Re: x1 box after update in idle mode when i shut it down

I understand and know what power it consumes, I already use smart power strips that shut off items. But that does not change the fact that a better design of all products that currently use "ghost power" should be understood and built into those products.  I like to look at the big picture and not what one single unit uses for ghost power. Given that ghost power consumers 20-25% of today's power usage in everyone's homes.   That is  not being green by any means.  IMHO.   Getting off the soap box.

How much power does your smart power strip consume?

When I turn the power switch off it is off.  I am the smarts behind it...
