dvr storage

dvr storage

we have an Xfinity X1 dvr.  It doesn't seem to hold much.  Our DISH dvr held hours of recordings and we never reached 75%.  We only have tv shows on this one and are already at 97%.  First, can you change the dvr to record in SD?  and if yes, how?  is there a larger memory capacity dvr available to purchase?  We did find out that we can't add a hard drive to this particular dvr Smiley Sad

How many tv shows?
You would need to delete the HD recording and set it up on the SD equivalent if available.
All DVRs have a 500GB hard drive, only way to increase recording space is additional dvrs.
Do you have a physical DVR or do you have Instant TV (big difference in space available)

Re: dvr storage

adding... sd is recorded in mpeg2 while HD (non-local) is recorded in mpeg4. the size of an hour's file in each format will now be approximately the same. do you have a physical DVR in your home? the cloud DVR has only last 60 hours. there are two people in our home but 4 DVRs to have more space.

comcast has upgraded all equipment so that cable channels now are in mpeg4 that for HD uses 1/2 the space on the drive effectively doubling the space. the local broadcast channels are in mpg2.
