X1 TV is streaming TV
Is X1 TV an internet streaming TV service? Traditionally, your TV will work without internet. I have a DVR box so I would expect it to have local storage and have the ability to watch TV without internet. However, I had an internet outage and the TV was unable to do anything. The DVR box literally could not show a single live channel let alone be able to access recorded shows. The DVR box did nothing!
What is the point of even having a TV box? Why would I keep the X1 service as opposed to any other streaming TV experience that does not have ads galore?

When you enter a command (like change a channel) the command is received by the set top box and sent to comcast's server in the cloud. the server sends an appropriate command back to the set top box. if you are watching live TV or a recording and that 'path' of communication is interrupted, the channel will continue the play of the recording or play that channel. While there is an interruption, you can watch using cell data on a smart device the TV go channels, most of the on-demand programming, and any finished recordings. If you are at home and connected to your own home network and have a chromecast device connected to your TV, you can cast the stream from your smart device to the TV screen.

After much researching, I found that Xfinity TV is over IP. So no internet = no TV. I understand that I can use other ways to access the TV over IP using any other form of internet. However, the whole Xfinity system is reliant on Xfinity internet which has proven extremely unreliable to me lately. Why would I be paying for your internet when I can't use it? Back a few years ago, TV had its own RF spectrum so it was independent if the internet connection.
I've found that the price of Xfinity TV is higher than other TV over internet (streaming) and
Xfinity TV adds 30% commercials!!!!
I think that I'm going to switch to streaming.

you seem to be great confused on how cable TV channels currently work. there are a few optional channels in some packages that are IP only channels. But currently all but a few channels are carried over specific cable TV frequency assignments and the set top box tunes to those frequencies and it is not TV over IP. Streaming devices have no set top box tuner and do stream the channels.
