I tried "rewinding" a live show to watch something I missed, but when I pressed the << button, a message popped up on the screen: "Instant Replay Card Removed - To pause and rewind live TV, insert the card." I can pause and rewind on my DVR box, but not on my other boxes.
What, exactly, is an "instant replay card"?

I never did solve it - I replaced my non-DVR boxes with a TiVo and a TiVo Mini.

Is it possible to take the box to your Xfinity Store and swap it out?

I don't see why not; that's what I did when my DVR was bad. Just make sure that you get a receipt that you brought the bad box in - otherwise there's a chance that you might start getting charged for both the old box and the new one.
