What's an "Instant Replay Card"?

I tried "rewinding" a live show to watch something I missed, but when I pressed the << button, a message popped up on the screen: "Instant Replay Card Removed - To pause and rewind live TV, insert the card."  I can pause and rewind on my DVR box, but not on my other boxes.

 

What, exactly, is an "instant replay card"?

The XiDs and Xi3s have an interior SD card that provides the ability to rewind. After a box reset, if you’re not able to, they’ll probably need to get swapped out

I never did solve it - I replaced my non-DVR boxes with a TiVo and a TiVo Mini.

Is it possible to take the box to your Xfinity Store and swap it out?

I don't see why not; that's what I did when my DVR was bad.  Just make sure that you get a receipt that you brought the bad box in - otherwise there's a chance that you might start getting charged for both the old box and the new one.

I may be wrong here, but I believe that the 'instant replay card" is a full size sd card that goes in most of the two-set & DVR boxes & is responsible for pausing & rewinding & fast-forwarding & such content that uses a cache & is continually recorded then wrote over & repeated. So in the instants of live TV where I believe you can pause for like 25 minutes before it will automatically in-house & start to play. I actually found a SD bay in my x1 DVR that has a 4gb sandisk card in it, had it out & my live content became un-pausable, so I'm pretty sure that's the right interpretation of its use.

I have been having the same problem, and after reading the post from JMcIntire-82, I checked the back of my small cable box and the SD card was only halfway inserted!   
I pushed it in and it works PERFECTLY!     Thank you!!!!
