Record one show, watch another

For some inexplicable reason, when we record a show on our X1 DVR, we can’t watch another show. It says “watching another program will stop the in-progress recording of” whatever program. Why would I want to watch the show I’m recording while I’m recording it? The purpose of a DVR is to record for future viewing. Any answers?

• How many recordings were in progress when the message appeared?

XG2 non-DVR boxes have 4 tuners and can be used to increase the number of tuners available if needed.
