Re: X1 HDMI Audio Outputs

If your TV has optical out or HDMI ARC, they will pass surround sound on to the receiver.  Alternatively if your receiver has HDMI in and out, you can connect the X1 to the receiver and let it pass video to the TV.

Thanks for the help, i may have to just upgrade the receiver, which is actually an all in one type deal, blueray/radio.  there are no hdmi inputs, only hdmi out.  doubt it supports arc, my tv, an LG 55SM8100AUA, has one ARC hdmi port which is currently connected to the cable box, set the audio out setting on the tv to optical, but am only getting stereo sound from the righ/left channel no center, or 2 rear, but the sub is working.

Set your X1 box to output Dolby Digital 5.1 and your TV digital output to auto or passthrough and you should get surround sound.   Note that not all TV content will have 5.1 channels and YouTube never has anything but stereo.  Your receiver might be sending all low frequencies to the sub even if it doesn't get an LFE channel.
