This exact thing happened to me last night, around 9:30 CST. It cycles from the "Welcome...Powering Up" screen to no signal to "A software update is in progress". Everything is connect, the TV is on the correct input and my internet is working fine.

promoted your reply on a different topic to a new thread in X1.  the software update is in progress is likely not your X1 but your TV. use your TV remote to select the X1 set top box HDMI connector (should be HDMI 1 or HDMI 2).
