DVR will not record -- IGNORES verified program requests

So I want to record all episodes of a series:

01) Select the program in the guide grid

02) Select Record | All Episodes

03)  Record New and Repeat Episodes | Confirm

04)  SYSTEM responds "Your Recording is Set"

-->  HOWEVER, NO RED DOT APPEARS ON PROGRAM IN THE GUIDE

-->  DVR | Scheduled  --> recording does not appear in list either

Attempted workaround:

01) Select the program in the guide grid

02) Select Record | Just This Episode

03) SYSTEM responds "Your Recording is Set"

-->  RED DOT APPEARS ON PROGRAM IN THE GUIDE

04) DVR | Scheduled

05) Select Program from List

06) Record Options | Modify | All Episodes

07) Record New and Repeat Episodes | Confirm

-->  HOWEVER, RED DOTS STILL DO NOT APPEAR ON ALL OF DESIRED PROGRAMS IN THE GUIDE

I do not understand why I cannot select a program, say "record all new and repeat episodes" and be done with it.  I could do this with every service I've had ecxept this Xfinity X1.  Seems needlessly complex!!!

Any solutions or corrections?  What am I failing to understand here?

Thanks.......

The easy first question is, do you have dvr service? On a live tv show can you press record and get a recording? Is this all recordings, some recordings, one recording?

Hi CCAndrew, thanks for responding.

Here is more info if it helps:

Yes, I have both the cloud-based recording as well as a physical Xfinity DVR and the problem crops up occasionally with some programs (example: History Channel) but not universally with all programs.  On a live tv show I can press record and get a recording.  No more than 3 programs are concurrently recording, so I don't think that's an issue.
