Closed captions flicker on Smithsonian program

"The Curious LIfe and Death of... Smithsonian Channel series looks interesting, but the closed captions come and go so quickly that I can't read them. Both episodes 1 and 2 have such flickering . I need closed captions, so I cannot watch the program.
