An error occurred while sending email

An old problem has resurfaced in the last month or so.  I cat not send email (using Thunderbird) because the VPN servers that are used with the Private Internet Access service that I use seem to be on some blacklist.  When I turn off the VPN, the email gets sent.

(For history, see Re: 421 Error when sending email)

Here are a number of the error messages:

An error occurred while sending mail: The mail server sent an incorrect greeting: resomta-po-08v.sys.comcast.net resomta-po-08v.sys.comcast.net CSI IP 174.128.xxx.xxx is not permitted to send messages. Please contact support if you feel this is in error..

An error occurred while sending mail: The mail server sent an incorrect greeting: resomta-ch2-08v.sys.comcast.net resomta-ch2-08v.sys.comcast.net CSI IP 194.59.xxx.xxx is not permitted to send messages. Please contact support if you feel this is in error.. (Got this error twice.)

An error occurred while sending mail: The mail server sent an incorrect greeting: resomta-po-06v.sys.comcast.net resomta-po-06v.sys.comcast.net CSI IP 194.59.xxx.xxx is not permitted to send messages. Please contact support if you feel this is in error..

Can someone help me out here?

I did not think that your response answered my issue.

I am now getting the following:

An error occurred while sending mail: The mail server sent an incorrect greeting. resomta-ch2-12v.sys.comcast.net resomta-ch2-12v.sys.comcast.net Message sending error. Please go to http://customer.comcast.com/help-and-support/internet/limitations-on-sending-email/.

1.  I cannot get to that Web page probably because it is not certificated (https).  What does this error message mean?

2.  Why am I getting this error message again so frequently?

I am using a VPN and have to disengage the VPN in order to use Thunderbird.  I am not a spammer and should not be treated as one.

I started to get this same error recently when using a VPN (see attached image).

I'm getting the same error message just started 2 days ago and I cannot send mail on my iphone either.  I've contacted Comcast and they can't figure out what's wrong (after 2 hours on the phone).  Clearly I'm not the only one.   FRUSTRATED!

Same issue on March 13 and 15th 2021.   Using Thunderbird email with a Bitdefender Virus Security and VPN turned on.  The only way to send a simple email is to exit everything, re-boot with no security or VPN.    Why is this happening now?

Message is " An error occurred while sending mail: The mail server sent an incorrect greeting:  resomta-po-02v.sys.comcast.net resomta-po-02v.sys.comcast.net Excessive failed authentication, ESMTP server temporarily not available."
