I agree with all prevoius posts. I will review my current Comcast TV package and see what I can remove to drop to a lower and cheaper tier. Also will watch for an altwrnative to come to my area.

I was told my “contract” allows them to change anything at anytime BUT if I want to change anything, I have to pay a penalty.  Sounds fair to me.

Re: Turner Classic Movies

I have a premium tier of 260 plus channels and THIS IS STILL EXCLUDED.  They want $9.95 a month MORE for another 100 channel sports package I do not watch to regain my TCM.  Oh yes, sign me up!  A few months ago they took the Military History channel and did the EXACT same thing.  It is also in the SPORTS package which I refuse to pay them one more cent!!!

Re: Turner Classic Movies

Comcast is saying that 90% of their viewers rarely watch TCM.  But I am betting that the other 10% watch it A LOT.  So Comcast made the decision that they could move TCM and those viewers would pay the extra $10.  This is a money grab by Comcast.  I pay over $150.00 a month, and I watch just a few channels -- TCM is my favorite.  I'm paying the extra $10 for TCM, but I also had to drop HBO ($15.00).  So Comcast is getting $5.00 less from me.   Maybe I wouldn't be so mad if they bundled TCM with a Movie Package that offered me other channels I would watch.  But a Sports Package -- seriously!

I am looking into other TV providers (like Metronet).  I have stuck with Comcast when most of my neighbors are leaving, but this is just one more nail in Comcast's coffin.

Re: WHY IS COMCAST CHANGING TURNER CLASSIC MOVIES TO SPORTS PACKAGE IN OCTOBER?

The way I've heard these things work. Comcast pays a certain fee to a channel based on the amount of customers that channel reaches. So if TCM ups their price, you multiply that increase by let's just say 1 million suscribers. Comcast retorts by putting channel in a tier that has only 100,000 suscribers. This more than makes up for the increase of course. Therefore, do not believe TCM wanted to be put in a higher tier (would you want less money in your check?). <Edited>. Channels fight to be taking off higher tiers and relocated to lower tiers (ala Bein Sports). <Edited>. They know this channel is more popular with older people who are less likely to switch to streaming. Any enhancements are usually to bring in/retain younger people which is why we so many apps loaded on our boxes.

Reading through these comments,  I'd say that Comcast needs to seriously consider reversing this move.  Seems to me like they stand to loose a lot of business if they don't.  Comcast, you're not the only video provider out there.  You DO have competition.  Just sayin....

LOL that's a good one.  <Edited> Why would a broadcaster request to be put into a higher tier?  You should wait awhile and call back.  Chances are you'll get someone else and see what they have to say.

We love movies and sports in our household, but moving TCM to another tier just so they can charge us more?  I am extremely disappointed in how proven, loyal customers are treated.  I have a 24 month contract with Comcast as of January, 2018, and I believe they have broken it, as well.

Re: WHY IS COMCAST CHANGING TURNER CLASSIC MOVIES TO SPORTS PACKAGE IN OCTOBER?

I could understand a channel wanting to be moved to a higher tier but why would you put a movie channel in a sports package?

As I've said before, if they'd moved it into a package with other movie channels or just tacked on a charge for TCM alone I may not have had a huge problem with it.

Anyone know if you can get TCM on Sling? And I just googled to find my answer & the answer is YES.

TCM BEING MOVED TO SPORTS PACKAGE

We have a 24 month contract with Comcast, beginning January 2018.  I know there's just a few months left until it's up, but isn't moving a channel that we had under the contract considered breaking the contract?  We like TCM in our household and watch it regularly.

I am 68 years old. I have NEVER watched a football game in my life! I detest baseball, golf, hockey , basketball and God forbid golf! I just don't like sports! My husband only occasionally watches the Steelers, our hometown team. We do, however, watch TCM every single day! Hmmmm. I have a whole lineup of channels that I NEVER watch. Now, I must pay $9.95 for more sports and channels I will NEVER view so that I can keep a channel that I already had for more years than I can count! I'm so mad I could chew up nails and spit out tacks! Comcast has us in a stranglehold. Put up or shut up. My huaband and I are not swimming in money! I also get to pay an extra $2.95 a month to upgrade the box I use in my kitchen because the one I have been using won't pick up the sports package! Isn't that special? It picked up TCM for years! Now it's no darn good. I said all that to say this, Comcast is like a dictatorship. This is absolutely ridiculous!

I had added the Digital Preferred package because it had TCM with Comcast gladly charged extra for.  I was on the phone with them and they wanted me to add the sports package for an additional cost for TCM.  My question is, what am I paying for in the Digital Preferred package?  Not long ago, they took away some the broadcast radio stations, but did they lower the cost for fewer services.  No.  It seems Comcast is very good at taking away services and increasing the cost to their customers.

Another money grabbing effort by the Roberts family and their henchmen. I don't want an extra package. I would like TCM back. Maybe it is a good idea to cut the cord. It would be cheaper to get an antenna for local stations and just pay for streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hulu.

Hello, mbg71. Thank you for reaching out.

Every month, Comcast pays programmers like networks, local TV station owners and others, for the ability to bring their programming to you. We regularly review our programming and sometimes make changes to ensure we're offering a wide variety of programming at the best value. We look at a variety of factors, including customer viewership and programming costs when making these decisions. Viewership of TCM is low, as over 90% of our customers watch less than two movies per month. Given this and contractual limitations on offering TCM a la carte, we decided to move TCM to the Sports Entertainment Package, which will help us manage programming costs that are passed on to our customers while continuing to make the channel available to those who want to watch it.

Re: WHY IS COMCAST CHANGING TURNER CLASSIC MOVIES TO SPORTS PACKAGE IN OCTOBER?

Top 10 Reasons Why TCM Was Moved To a Higher Tiered Package …
#10. TCM’s Backlot inspired them to create their own version of a “Backlot Membership” … where you now pay a little extra in order to get insider access to TCM, with the simple use of an Xfinity remote.

#9. Thinking TCM stands for “Traditional Chinese Medicine,” the Execs thought the bundling move would tap into a new revenue source of subscribers for other US sports as well.

#8. TCM launched in 1994 which means it’s a “silver” anniversary this year. Well, silver does cost more these days and naturally $10 a month more is not asking too much.

#7. Raise fees / cut services and Comcast can have their own little “Whine” Club too. Heck, we’ll even provide a convenient Xfinity Forum so we can start crushing these over-ripened little gripes.

#6. Traversing down the dark corridors of Noir Alley with the Czar of Noir, those TCM fans will surely get a kick out of our modern day set-ups and physical shake downs here in the corporate world of reality.

#5. Inspired by a list of classic movie quotes, the Execs chose … “Show me the money” as their favorite movie quote, with Rhett Butler’s line in Gone With The Wind, a close second.

#4. The objective here is to offer a wide variety of programming at a good value, so create a sports & entertainment package that accomplishes at least half of that goal.

#3. Moving to a higher tier within any loyalty program does have its perks … and customer service can call it the “Essentials,” as in view the bill - pay the bill.

#2. The move supports the late 80s movie character, Gordon Gekko’s mantra, that … “higher tiered programming packages, for lack of a better word, is good!”

And the #1 reason why Comcast moved TCM … is that TCM fans do love Horror Classics in the month of October, and well, we’ll give them a good one on the 10th of October.

Re: TCM Being Placed in Extra Cost Tier

Shame on you, Comcast.   I never heard of such a ridiculous explanation for moving a classic movie channel to a sports package.  Your explanation is tantamount to a politician's tricky speech.

If you are truly interested in analyzing costs, how about looking at your advertising budget?   I think moving TCM to a sports package is the result of many ideas - most likely aimed at mature married couples.   What 'sport loving' spouse wouldn't love to say to his/her  'non sport loving' spouse,  "Look honey, we can get TCM if we add a sports package?"

I am so tired of your constant commercials about how your service is so superior and customer oriented.   At $200+ a month, it is time for a spouse to spouse conversation about finding a new service.

I would like to add that despite the disrespect of the Comcast upper echelon,  your customer service representatives have always been kind and helpful.   I feel it is important to note this fact.

What a nonsense reply.  My guess is that those folks that like to watch sports most likely don't watch "old movies".  This is one od those crazy rthings that Comcast has been doing.  Wha not just bundle MOVIES as an option (all movie channels) - I agree with others- a move by comcast to place TCM in with sports is an opportunity to cancel and try another service.

I wish I could agree with you about the great people who make Comcast tick. That would indeed be nice. If that's your personal experience then congratulations on your good luck. EVERY time I have called Comcast I get some fast-talking fool with a heavy accent & no clue how to communicate. It's like listening to a comedy routine. What the person is saying, if I can make any sense out of it, directly contrdicts what it says elsewhere (on this or on another Comcast website, or on the notice on the bill if they bothered to make a notice). In short, the person makes the situation worse. Comcast probably would not work at all if its operating systems weren't automated with minimal human intervention required.

TCM removed from package

I live in a community and our Comcast package up to this October 2019 included TCM. I understand now you must purchase a sports package to get TCM. Well, this is one more reason our community is now in negotiations to change our cable/WiFi provider. Changing the package lineup is not fair to those customers who understood that TCM was part of their package. Any other business would be vilified by these actions but because changing Cable providers, especially in condo communities presents some roadblocks, Xfinity/Comcast feel empowered to do as they want. These practices will hopefully provide an opportunity to other Cable providers to challenge Comcast for customers.

What a surprise last night to find out that Comcast/Xfinity removed TCM from my package.  I don't remember receiving any notification.  I have been a subscriber since 1989.  I have gone through some rough times with Comcast/Xfinity, I hanged in there anyway, but now I am truly disappointed.  And to replace it with a Sports Entertainment Package, for which I have to pay extra?  My customer relations representatives were very sympathetic to my unhappiness this morning.  I'm just guessing that most TCM subscribers are not great sports enthusiasts.  I guess I will reconsider my 29 years of loyalty to Comcast/Xfinity.  Your company is the second-largest broadcasting and cable television company in the world by revenue and the largest pay-TV company, the largest cable TV company and largest home Internet service.  I think this was shabby treatment from such a powerful company.

According to Comcast, few subscribers are actually watching Turner Classic Movies.  That's their "explanation" for moving it to another package.  If you read the fine print, you'll find the contract is very one-sided.  It allows Comcast to change the channel line-ups as they wish, but, if you break the contract or disconnect your service early, you are penalized.

This is an example of how Comcast manipulates customers to make money.  They'll brag about how much they appreciate you and the loads of stuff they provide that you don't watch.  However, if you want a particular channel that you really like, they're going to make you pay as much as possible.

As I write this, my tv picture keeps freezing and the internet has been blinking off and on for the past 1/2 hour.  I'm so fed up, I intend to disconnect my service when my contract ends and look at other options.  The repeated changes and constant hassle are not worth the expense.

TCM for no extra charge on your mobile device or computer - here's how

If you want to keep Comcast and still see TCM try this on your computer or mobile device.

1. Open Xfinity in your browser

2. In the Xfinity menu bar at top of Xfinity screen click on the TV icon (to right or email icon)

3. In the next screen that opens up in the Search bar enter TCM

4. In the next window that opens  you should see a TCM logo with words TCM Channel Collection. Click on the logo or words TCM.

5. The window that opened on my computer gives 4 "channel" choices on which to view TCM. You will also see the movie currently playing.

6. Click on your choice and you can watch the current movie.

OR.....

If you are dumping Comcast or don't want to pay extra....

Into your computer or mobile device browser enter www.TCM.com

The TCM site will open and you can see the current movie playing or other features including a selection of movies you can watch immediately.

Either way to see TCM on your non-smart TV, you will need an HDMI cable connected from your computer or mobile device to your TV. (I don't know how it works with a "Smart TV." You may need an adapter to connect the HDMI cable  to your computer or mobile device. I have interconnected my MacBook and my iPad to a TV this way. Smart phone should work too. But remember an adapter may be needed to connect HDMI cable to your computer or mobile device.

A real pain and its takes time to set up so allow extra minutes before that movie you want to watch is scheduled to start!

Comcast's removal of TCM from my channel lineup.

I am angry & disappointed that Comcast has removed TCM from my channel line up. This change appears to be a scheme to get me to pay more. TCM is one of my favorite channels; I get enough sports on my current channels. Please reconsider this change; I see on the forum page that many other customers share my feelings. I was considering adding Internet to my current services. However, I am now considering cancelling my service. I will be exploring options with other service providers.

COMCAST HAS LOCKED THE TCM THREAD

YES, Comcast has locked the thread about "CHANGING TCM" so that no additional comments can be posted.

I tried to post on another thread, and that thread disappeared while I was typing.  Then I started a new thread to post a message, and, in less than 1 hour, that thread is GONE.  There was nothing offensive in there that should have required removal.  Therefore, I will post it again.  We'll see how long it lasts.

What's wrong Comcast, don't like what you're seeing and hearing???

Well, we don't like what you're doing.  So now we're even.

GET USED TO IT!!

Meanwhile, multiple channels on my television have gone dark and are showing error messages,

while others are just a mass of pixels.  This is the 2nd time today I have lost the picture -- same

issues on both tv's.  Is this some kind of payback or just the usual Comcast service?

New Poster

This is why everyone hates Comcast

Forcing us to buy a sports package to receive TCM?   Are you serious.  I am already paying $150/month for cable, and I only have that package because it was the one with TCM.    Now you are taking that away and expecting me to pay more to get it back?

And who thought TCM belonged in a sports package?  I'd be willing to be that if you had a Venn diagram with TCM fans in one circle and Sports package fans in another, there would be little to no overlap.   Different audiences.

All you are doing is driving more people to drop Comcast.

Re: TCM for no extra charge on your mobile device or computer - here's how

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but  I believe you must have a subscription to watch movies on TCM.com.  For months, every time I have tried, the website would give me an error message saying it was unable to verify my tv provider.  I tried signing out, signing in, etc. but couldn't get it to work.

TCM didn't respond to my emails, so I finally called Comcast.  The phone rep. had no idea what to do, but that's how I found out TCM was being moved to another package.  They put channel change notifications in tiny print on the 3rd page of the bill, so it's no wonder I didn't see it.  I checked my latest bill and found a message about a channel I'd never heard of, that they added to my line up 3 wks. ago.

Gee, thanks.

Re: TCM for no extra charge on your mobile device or computer - here's how

I'd wanted to reply to the main message thread on the topic of TCM except Comcast in their wisdom posted "Thanks for the feedback, this topic is now closed and locked". I guess they feel they are above criticism.

I know much of the senior leadership at TCM and they are plenty upset about this change, too. They have been fielding a lot of unhappy queries via Twitter, telephone and their own website boards. They know that many of their viewers see TCM as more than a channel - it's a companion. And it's helped many people get through illness, bereavement, and brings families together. It's more than just a TV channel - it's also a community. I doubt if ESPN or Bravo can make that statement.

Here's some of what they posted on Twitter:

"Comcast made the decision to repackage TCM in its More Sports & Entertainment package. While we know there is an additional cost, TCM remains uncut, commercial-free, & the ultimate classic movie destination for film lovers."

"TCM will always provide fans with a way to stay connected through our website & social. While Comcast has made the decision to repackage TCM, you can find other ways to get TCM:"

And then they post alternative ways to get TCM:

https://tcmdigitalhelp.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360036131134-How-can-I-get-Turner-Classic-Movie...

I don't understand why, if France TV and Deutsche Welle TV and Russia Today can be offered as stand alone buy ups, why TCM can't be offered the same way? I'd be happy to pay, say, $20/month for TCM if I could drop the rest of my lousy TV package down to basic cable.

As for me, I'm sick of paying extortionist rates to Comcast (and I don't use ANY of their equipment) for 1000 channels, 980 of which are utter garbage. As soon as my contract is up, it's OTA for me, with my TiVo, and AT&T Fiber (faster synchronous speed at lower cost) plus a DirecTV or YouTubeTV package.
