This move by Comcast is total bull and what really gets me, they know it too. What better way to disguise a selected rate increase than to take dedicated / loyal channel viewers (like TCM) and move them up to another tier and anticipate them to follow suit. Apparently I missed the notification change and only realized it today, the day they made the actual change. My guess is there will be many more that will come to the same realization in the coming days as well.  And likewise, they will have one of three choices this longstanding customer (>30 yrs) is now faced with … 1) put up with this recent change and accept it, or 2) agree to it and add more money to the monthly bill, or 3) save a bit of money and take my long-standing customer loyalty into a “new” found direction.

I have the very same feelings, I don't have or want the Sports Package... now I have to pay $120 a year for TCM?

Apparently Comcast has taken note of how many customers watch TCM and hunger for more customers to milk. That is the only possible explanation that makes sense. Something needs to be done about these unscrupulous cable companies.

Re: TCM Being Placed in Extra Cost Tier

I'm also livid.  I don't care for sports at all-bugs me that I have been paying Comcast big money for literally decades for ESPN which I never watch.

This very well may be the tipping point to push me over to cutting the cable.  Paying nearly $170 per month for basic cable & TV is ridiculous, especially when they cut out what we really watch.

PS-they also cut out the local access channel here, as well.

It's a matter of choice you can pay Comcast 120.00 annually for TCM or cut the cord.

It's a win-win for them because in addition to increasing their revenue by $10 per month for each of us who bends over and takes the additional package to continue to get TCM they get to claim the same number of increases in the number of people who now have access to all those sports channels most of us will never watch. And some of us now are double paying for most of those channels because we already get those sports channels as part of digital preferred which we have to have to get the DVR, HD service, etc. (unless something has changed there that I also wasn't notified about before this change).

Re: WHY IS COMCAST CHANGING TURNER CLASSIC MOVIES TO SPORTS PACKAGE IN OCTOBER?

I don't believe a thing that COMCAST says about their rationale for moving TCM to the sports and entertainment package. Especially when they say it is to benefit us TCM watchers. How can adding $10 a month to already hefty monthly charges benefit anyone?

Re: WHY IS COMCAST CHANGING TURNER CLASSIC MOVIES TO SPORTS PACKAGE IN OCTOBER?

Just today I learned of the issue. I called and talk to a Comcast representative and I was told by that representative that this was a channel lineup change requested by the TCM entity.
I made note to the representative that I don't believe her for one minute.
They've got to be getting a lot of calls on this change.

Re: WHY IS COMCAST CHANGING TURNER CLASSIC MOVIES TO SPORTS PACKAGE IN OCTOBER?

I would suggest to everyone experiencing the removal of TCM from currently selected packages to deduct $10.00 from their monthly payments.   Apparently that is what TCM is worth since it is the price of acquiring the new Sports Entertainment package to continue receiving TCM.  If we can be charged when a new service is added, surely we are owed a price reduction when a previously supplied service is removed.

Re: TCM Being Placed in Extra Cost Tier

Comcast has and continues to make many, many millions off their Pornography Channels.  That money more than compensates their CEO's exorbitant salaries, bonuses and Golden Parachute Packages when they leave or retire and certainly compensates their shareholders.  They need not take yet another "$9.99 or $12.99"  again and again from lower tier customers.  Sometimes Comcast some customers reach that point and CAN NO LONGER AFFORD YOU.  Time for another Cable Company or other service Smiley Sad

My family has subscribed to Comcast and its predecessors in our community since it began in the 1950's as a small, privately owned system that was sold to Adelphia over 20 years ago. TCM is a rare cultural island in a lineup of mostly junk. I will now be cancelling this seventy year-old subscription, except for internet, and switching to DirectTV.

I tried that some time back and was told by Comcast sales that you can not get the internet as a stand alone?

Was I mis-informed?

Re: TCM Being Placed in Extra Cost Tier

Comcast changed TCM to the Sports Package without even notifying me in advance - I got a notice sahying that my account number would be changed on Oct. 11, but nothing about TCM.  I just did not show up this morning.  I will pay the extra fee (if it is not too large) since, unlike many of those posting on this topic, I watch sports as well as TCM.  If anyone is seriously considering cutting the cable, refer to https://flixed.io.  If your are concerned about the monoply Comcast exercises over cable services in your area, the reason may be that Comcast or a subsisiary or affiliate functions under a franchise granted by some governmental entity which did not retain the right to exercise any control over the franchisee - you may want to research this and contact the governmental entity or officials involved.

Or like me, you can just "pay the two dollars"

As I see it,  we're not even going to get a replacement channel for the one removed.

Re: THOUSANDS WANT TURNER CLASSIC MOVIE CHANNEL LEFT ALONE AND NOT SWITCHED TO SPORTS PACKAGE

When I got my bill last month in the additional information block, there was an announcement about the change in TCM. However, it DID NOT mention digital preferred (which we have) , just Digital Starter, Economy Plus and Latino TV or Starter Latino TV.  Website still shows TCM avail on the digital preferred and preferred plus. Talked to an agent who had no clue about what she was talking about and couldn't understand why I was calling.

She told me the new package would not be available in my area (Tucson) until sometime at the end of the month. Oh, and my RNG110 boxes were not compatable with then new service and the only way I could get replacements was to order them through her and they would be sent out and I wuld have to pay shipping. She said they were not available at my local Xfinity store.

This entire deal with Comcast/Xfinity is getting rediculous. On my phone service I have no call history (told me multiple times the problem was fixed) and I can't run the Xfinity app because it is not compatible with Android 10.  Comcast, you are starting to make my decision easier on whether I stay with you or not when  my onesided contract is up.

We pay well over $100 per month for already a bunch of channels we never watch (including sport channels). TCM was one of the channels we watched all the time. So now, just to get TCM, we have to pay an additional $9.99 per month for an additional bunch of sport channels we would never watched... Doesn't make any sense... Hey Comcast are you listening? Are you trying to get rid of your customers...

Re: THOUSANDS WANT TURNER CLASSIC MOVIE CHANNEL LEFT ALONE AND NOT SWITCHED TO SPORTS PACKAGE

Well, Comcast, this is the most awesomely twisted plan you've devised yet for holding longtime customers over a barrel. TCM has, of course, nothing to do with sports beyond occasional airings of "Pride of the Yankees" or "Knute Rockne All American." But it has a fiercely devoted and thus extortable following. Why not just say that, in so many words, rather than concoct insulting tales like "No one is watching it" or "TCM requested the change"? Just tell us that, out of all the useless and redundant channels we pay hundreds for (plus internet that might drop out at any moment), you've successfully identified the one network we can't live without and held it for ransom. Don't you-know-what on us and tell us it's raining. What a thing to wake up to - "TCM Not Authorized." Next, all the sports channels will be probably moved to an HBO package. Incredible.

I'm so livid I can't think.  I just "love" how some of the Comcast reps. are so pleasant and ALWAYS mention that we are such loyal, long-standing customers of over 40 years, etc.  "Let's see how I can help you reduce the cost of your plan."  Oh, then they find a plan that's a few dollars less for two years.  However, the reps are just doing their jobs and what they are told to do.  This company does NOT care about anything but  making money.  Shame on Comcast for not truly caring about their loyal customers, as well as other customers who always pay their bills on time.  None of anyone's comments will make a difference about TCM or other Comcast matters.  Thanks for the opportunity to vent!

Re: TCM BEING MOVED TO SPORTS ENTERTAINMENT PACKAGE

I have never in my life seen a corporation care less about customer satisfaction.  There is no explanation for Comcast changing TCM to a sports package other than greed and taking advantage of folks who enjoy older, collectible, classic films.  Profit motivation and greed--that is what it is all about.

Re: WHY IS COMCAST CHANGING TURNER CLASSIC MOVIES TO SPORTS PACKAGE IN OCTOBER?

How many people watch the many Polish or other foreign language channels? I am sure the viewership is far less.  The only reason we pay for the extra channels beyond basic is for TCM.  We will be cancelling as soon as contractually possible.  Actually, there is no reason to pay for the extra channels now. Paying the cancellation fee is cheaper.

Re: Turner Classic Movies

Yeah!   First they got rid of my kids favorite channel, Sprout, and now they are getting rid of one of my favorite channels.   I already pay Comcast almost $200 a month for my "Triple Play" whatever.   I am not going to pay extra for TCM, a channel I have watched as a part of a basic cable package since the 1980s.   I might be time to move to a different TV solution.

I'm disgusted to find that Comcast has taken away yet another popular and unique channel in TCM. Pay more, get less is the company slogan. As soon as my contact is up, I'm switching to Verizon.

Re: WHY IS COMCAST CHANGING TURNER CLASSIC MOVIES TO SPORTS PACKAGE IN OCTOBER?

What a sorry answer. I see at last 20 music stations. I see a bunch of Hispanic stations that I am paying for and don't use.  I find it hard to believe that the population watches only 2 movies a month. This is my go to movie channel, because TCM shows older movies and has great intros about them, instead of all that drab on the other movie stations.  Your way of making us pay for all those sports that we don't watch to get us to get TCM is really low. I have been a customer since the beginning, and this just might now be the end. WOW is coming in, AT&T now can use your fiber optic lines, and maybe it's just time for a change. As more people start to realize this, you might just be thinking this move was not a good idea. You charge enough money as it is for what we watch. Pitiful

Re: WHY IS COMCAST CHANGING TURNER CLASSIC MOVIES TO SPORTS PACKAGE IN OCTOBER?

Just talked to Comcast rep.  Supposedly TCM decided to go to a "higher tier" so was put on the Sports package.  Very disappointing.  Plus I still get TCM channel charged on my bill even though I will no longer get it.  Rep says the Sports package would cost $9.99 extra per month!  No way!  I'm going to see if maybe Amazon will offer TCM on its Amazon Video streaming.

Re: Turner Classic Movies

I pay all kinds of money to  suppport umpteen sports channels that I don't watch? Why screw customers loyal to a channel  -TCM - with an extra charge? Is the FCC awake and breathing? Perhaps the FCC leaders can't wait to jump over to Comcast when their terms are over? One person here made an interesting point-TCM has become more popular so Comcast's first reaction, 'lets charge the idiots more!' Of course no corresponding reduction for customers that don't watch football, a game that causes brain damage and costs Comcast a bundle. Is it possible the executives that approved this bone headed move played a lot of football without a helmet?

Re: WHY IS COMCAST CHANGING TURNER CLASSIC MOVIES TO SPORTS PACKAGE IN OCTOBER?

Ally,

Great move.

I've never commented or posted anywhere but when I went to see what was on TCM and saw "Not Authorized" I thought it was a mistake. When I found out what happened I had to comment.

You know that putting TCM into a sports package is just wrong. I believe that more folks are watching the COMMERCIAL FREE movies on TCM than you indicate, and you can take that any way you want. I prefer watching TCM rather than the smutty, phony, and "action for morons" movies that Hollywood is producing now. I'm not paying for sports that I wont watch, I have enough sports.  I've been a Comcast TV customer since the Prism days and I have a family member working for Comcast but I'm researching Fios (UGH) and others and will switch if it's remotely feasible.  Not just for TCM but for the principle. I think that putting movies in a sports package to make more money is insulting to your customers and I hope a good many feel as I do.

Re: THOUSANDS WANT TURNER CLASSIC MOVIE CHANNEL LEFT ALONE AND NOT SWITCHED TO SPORTS PACKAGE

Why don't you try and make ESPN a a la carte channel and see how many subcribe to it.  ESPN and similar channels are were all your programming cost are.  That no one watches TCM is manure (won't let me use the word Harry Truman used).  Just look at how many posts are in this thread.

Re: WHY IS COMCAST CHANGING TURNER CLASSIC MOVIES TO SPORTS PACKAGE IN OCTOBER?

I found out that they are taking Turner Classic Movie Channel off at 2AM this morning.

When I called an agent, he explained that it has been moved to a SPORTS PACKAGE for an extra $9.95 a month.

That is certainly a kick in the teeth for TCM lovers.  Why watch classic movies when you can watch sports instead?

Comcast has no regard whatsoever to long -lasting and long PAYING, customers like myself! Comcast (or should I say Xfinity) has become a money-gobbling machine which people are learning to dislike intensely and mistrust.

Well,  I did remedy the situation by cancelling the expensive package I had and got a cheaper package (which excludes Showtime, Starz, and a few other channels). The new package was about $15 cheaper than the old one and I am not paying ONE DIME of extra money to get my favorite channel back on my TV.

LONG LIVE TCM!!!!  AND ALL ITS FAITHFUL VIEWERS!!!!

Turner Classic Movies change

With the competition from other carriers, who have TCM on their line-ups in non-sports packages, and rates that a very competitive now, and broader coverage areas, what was Comcast thinking?????  Especially so as the other carriers are basically all offering to cover any early contract cancellation fees?????  You'd think they'd at least have grandfathered the existing customers into keeping TCM in their line-up until their contracts expire.
