Missing local radio stations from channel lineup

Today I discovered that local radio stations were no longer on my channel lineup. I live in Berkeley California and as recently as last Saturday had local FM stations on my channel list. However today they were gone. I contacted xfinity tech support and they said several people had reported this issue. I’m wondering how widespread this is and/or if anyone else has a solution. Thanks in advance.

Thank you for your tenacity.  What is the "Golden Rain Foundation" ?  Can you explain what you mean by Comcast having a contract with this foundation?  Is that a Rossmoor contract specifically?

Golden Rain Foundation runs Rossmoor, and Comcast has a contract with Rossmoor.

I will contact Tim . Thanks for the suggestion. Will also contact state, federal representatives. Let's keep up the pressure! Comcast has done this before. . .

I spent most of the day on Monday fighting with Comcast about dropping the FM stations. What is the alternative in Rossmoor? We residents
are under a contract that Rossmoor has with Comcast, and we all pay through our coupon. I will try to contact GRF and . Radio reception for FM is terrible here. Not fair!

Rossmoor, Walnut Creek is an over-55 "active adult" community of nearly 10,000 people.  Residents actually pay two HOA fees monthly to two organizations.  The payments are combined for the convenience of making one monthly condo fee payment, here called the "coupon."  The Golden Rain Foundation is the umbrella organization, which maintains the facilites for the entire community, such as the fitness center, golf course, etc., and services for the entire community, such as Comcast cable service, and there is a GRF monthly assessment.  In addition, each "neighborhood" in Rossmoor has its own HOA (called "Mutuals"--there are 18 of them), which manages the local area and maintains the dwellings in  that area, and assesses its own monthly condo fee.

The CEO of the Golden Rain Foundation  is the person who negotiated our contract with Comcast.  Comcast buttered a lot of people up around here to get their contract with this community renewed (it expires again in a couple of years).  Rossmoor is in a valley, and their is no adequate radio reception through the air.  I personally spoke with the Golden Rain CEO and he says that the contract allows Comcast to add and remove stations, so that their action )  is not a contract violation.  I  contend that it is.  What Comcast did was not just remove a station or two.  They eliminated an entire service--and a valuable community service at that.  The contract was never intended to be used to justify such an action.  Comcast's action is, in effect, NOT convered by the written contract,  In that case, the long-standing inclusion of the radio channels in their service is a de facto part of the contract, whether specifically addressed therein or not, and must be maintained, or their contract with us is null and void.

This is response I got today from KQED.  All Bay Area counties are in the same boat, not just Rossmoor.  I live in Marin, and we just cannot get FM radio:

"Thank you for reaching out. Unfortunately, Comcast has decided to drop all FM channels from their line up (Not just KQED.) They let their customers know via the November billing statement. . If more viewers call and request they bring back the FM lineup it may get them to reconsider. I do apologize for the inconvenience. For now, please stream KQED live on our website or you can download the KQED App via any smart device and tune in that way.

I for one should’ve seen it coming when I saw that they added iHeart Radio app to their lineup. Of course the stations are extremely limited but in my opinion it’s the addition of this very app that has prompted the removal of the local FM stations! I’m debating whether to join others in written protests to the powers-that-be or just cut the cable and go with strictly streaming.

Thanks for explaining the Rossmoor situation and how you are working to try and get these important community FM radio stations back on the Comcast lineup.  I received a phone call from "Tim" but he wasn't in when I called back - he is one of the "Case Managers" in something that sounds like a situation room where problems are dealt with by managers who try to help, or explain, or at least listen to complaints and perhaps resolve some of them.  I left him a message but have not heard back as yet.  ; these are stations that people learn from every day, with real people behind the microphones,  stations  that should be available  on a platform like Comcast, which has a reliable signal and should do its job as a community provider  -

Emails for Tom , Senior VP of Customer Service   and Charlie , Chief Customer Experience Office, .  I emailed both these men.  The response was an early AM (7:38) phone call from another customer service minion spouting the same company line: We notified you, we no longer have the capability to carry FM radio...  Comcast has dropped FM radio service from all of California.

"All of California" is a very big area.  "Tim" was somewhere in "Mountain Time" zone . . . Comcast has outsourced itself with call centers in India, Philippines etc.  Can we contact our CA representatives, from our local Mayors, City Council members, to District Supervisors, and legislators like Marc Levine, Jared Huffman, as well as Governor Gavin Newsom?  Are there other movers and shakers who have influence on the behemoth that is Comcast?

One of the local TV stations has a public complaint department where they try to help solve problems.  The more noise we make the better chance we have to be heard.  That's what happened in 2005.  We can do it again!
