Altitude Sports

It is my understanding that Comcast is considering dropping the Altitude Sports Channel in the Denver area.  I sincerely hope you do not.   It is the absolute best station for watching the Denver Nuggets games, and other local sports.   No national broadcasters can compete with the knowledge and fun of Scott Hastings and Chris Marlow.  Sorry, but ESPN, and national channels just can't compete with inside info from local personnel.  I hope Comcast (Xfinity) understands that customers have limited dollars to spend on entertainment.  I recently signed up to extend service with Comcast for two years, with express discussion with the service agent that it included the Altitude Channel.  If you pull Altitude, you are clearly breaking the agreement we had.

Re: Altitude Sports

It is unfortunate. The big three won’t extend the same operating options to Altitude as their internally owned networks. If this deal falls, Altitude may cease to exist. The terms and costs Comcast are demanding are beyond what the network can sustain.

Big greed.

Just play fair. Altitude isnt asking for anything not already offered to other company operated networks.

I agree.   If Comcast drops Altitude, I will have no reason at all to subscribe to Comcast.  I will happily drop the service entirely.  I can get internet service for half the price, and can rely entirely on Netflix, YouTube and Hulu for my TV.

Don't block my Altitude TV

Hello, I hear that Altitude TV may be blocked come this Sunday due to you not renewing a contract with them. The whole reason I have cable is so I can watch Altitude Sports which carries the Colorado Avalanche hockey team and Denver Nuggets basketball team. If you do not agree with Altitude to a new contract and you do not carry Altitude anymore I wil cancel my services ASAP. Why would I pay for something that I don't get anymore? No logic in that. Im not sure who is charge of this but whoever is you need to let them know that a lot of people in Colorado will be angry and cancel Xfinity if this happens.

Re: Don't block my Altitude TV

Comcast needs to resolve the contract issues with Altitude TV so that we do no lose access to the channel. My handicapped brother is a huge Rockies fan and the highlight of his day is watching his beloved Rockies. Unfortunately neither Comcast nor Altitude care about the impact on their customers, even though their customers are the ones paying to keep their companies afloat.

Time for these companies to take a good look at how their actions impact the very people that have helped these companies thrive.

The Rockies are on AT&T Sportsnet.  You will not be affected by this if you are only worried about the Rockies.

Re: Altitude Sports

Hi Everyone. Thank you for your feedback/interest. We have included some information below that should help in understanding the changes made.

Our programming agreement with Altitude expired on Aug. 31. As a result, we no longer have the rights to carry their content. We made an offer in line with the value of their programming, but they didn’t accept it. We want to be able to offer Altitude to our customers, but only at a reasonable price. We hope that we will be able to carry Altitude again soon.

Comcast pays programmers like Altitude for the right to provide their content to our customers. Our programming agreements expire from time to time. We always try to work with programmers to carry the content our customers want at a reasonable price. Programming costs for Comcast, as well as other providers, are increasing. Our goal is to advocate on behalf of our customers to ensure that we can offer content you enjoy at a fair price. We have successfully negotiated thousands of agreements with programmers and come to an agreement in almost every instance. We want to be able to offer Altitude to our customers, but only at a reasonable price.

Every contract includes a certain package of channels and services at a fixed price for the stated period of time. But during the term of the contract, specific channels may be added, changed, or removed for a variety of reasons, including the launch of popular new channels or changes in the popularity of existing channels. In this case, we removed Altitude from your programming package, because we no longer have permission from Altitude to carry it. While this change won’t cause prices to go down on existing packages, it will help reduce the speed at which they go up. The cost of programming generally continues to rise, which affects customers’ bills. In fact, our programming costs have more than doubled since 2006. We absorb a large portion of these cost increases and are doing our best to manage them while delivering additional value to you.

Altitude has exclusive in-market broadcast rights for the Avalanche, Nuggets, Rapids, and Mammoth, so there aren’t many alternate viewing options available. You can watch nationally televised Nuggets games on ESPN, NBA TV, or TNT. You can watch nationally televised Avalanche games on NHL Network, Fox Sports or NBC Sports Network. You can also watch AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain, which has Colorado Rockies, Mountain West Conference, and Big Sky Conference games.

Fox Sports does not televise Avs games nationally. The NHL Network's Avs telecasts are blacked out in the Avs market. Only nBS and NBCSN exclusive games are available in the Avs market.

Altitudes Sports

I'm sick we can't watch the Avalanche and Nuggets this upcoming year. My mom was 91 last year and we would call each other then watch the games together. It was the highlight of her day last year. There are so many people that are unable to go to the games due to health and money . Please try to come to an agreement for the people that are home bound. It's the best channel on the TV for sport watchers!!! Thank you!

Re: Altitude channel

I understand that you are now considering dropping the Altitude network from the channel lineup in Colorado. I strongly disagree with this decision. I read somewhere that the decision is being made because the majority of the subscribers do not watch. Please tell me when I was asked. Also, I’ve got at least 30 channels provided in Spanish - how did the majority of subscribers select this (last time I checked, English was still the legal language spoken by the majority of Colorado)? I don’t want my money spent on Spanish channels that I have no use for instead of local sports that I have been watching for years. Who are you actually providing a service to?? If you would like to discuss further, please call my automated phone and I’ll route you to a recorded message right away after trying to answer 30 unrelated questions to get you there. You’re killing it with service when this is potentially the only way that we can actually be heard!!

Altitude Sports in CO

Hello!

I would like to formally implore you to prioritize a new contract with the channel Altitude Sports in Colorado.

I have been a loyal customer for many years and I pay you all $130/mo literally to JUST watch the Colorado Avalanche on Altitude Sports during the NHL Season. (I dont watch TV outside of that, just stream movies and shows on Hulu and Netflix)

If a contract is not signed by the beginning of the season and I cannot watch Avalanche games, I will cancel all services and switch my internet provider.

I know many others locally who have expressed similar sentiments. If you would like to retain your market share in Colorado I suggest you find a solution quickly. 🙂

Don’t block my Altitude

I am extremely disappointed that Comcast feels they can quit televising our local sports channel of Altitude. I signed up with Comcast because Altitude was one of my contracted channels. Now you have broken your contract- can I get out of mine too? I’ll just save the money that I pay you and go to the games in person. Very disappointing and very shady business on Comcast part.

Comcast didn't break any contract; they negotiated in good faith with Altitude, and tried to keep the price they pay for Altitude down so that customer's won't see any price increase in their plan, and Altitude wouldn't play.  There isn't any conspiracy to remove channels to "punish" customers, as some are wont to purport here at times.

Contracts come up with networks all the time.  Most of the time deals are negotiated in a timely manner and customers see no change.  Other times, it doesn't work out so well and a network is dropped.

As far as your contract, no, you can't get out of it without penalty.

That's the Comcast side of the story but bottom line is that I only pay for Comcast Xfinity for all of the Avs and Nuggets games. If Altitude is no longer on Comcast, I'm cancelling my subscription.

If you drop Altitude I will drop all of my xfinity services. The only reason I still have xfinity service is because it was the only place to get altitude. Everything else I use I can get elsewhere for less money. When I signed my contract it was specifically stated to me by a rep that I would have Altitude sports channel. Now I don't. Do what is right Xfinity! Honor your customers contracts.

Re: Altitude Sports

It doesn't seem like there's an easy way to post criticism of Comcast but, hopefully, this is recorded.  Comcast supplies (and charges for) hundreds of channels which have absolutely no interest to me or my family.  We do, however, care very much for coverage of the local sports teams supplied by Altitude.  If Comcast finds that it cannot provide that content, we will find that we cannot continue to support (and pay for) Comcast.  There are other options and, if Comcast can't provide content that we want, we will look for a provider that will.

Altitude sports - Don't Block Altitude

We urge Comcast.....Don't Block Altitude!!!   We were shocked yesterday when we switched to Altitude Sports channel to watch a Nuggets 360 show and saw that Comcast no longer carries this channel!!   Unbelievable!   We've been loyal Comcast customers for 25+ years and dedicated Denver Nuggets fans for just as long.  Both the Nuggets and Avalanche teams drawing more and more fans, and viewers are tuning into these two competitive, fun to watch local sports teams.   It's extremely disappointing that now, as we are just coming into the opening of both the NHL and NBA seasons and Colorado with such dynamic, young teams, that Comcast will no longer carry the Altitude Sports channel!   It is our strong hope that an agreement with Altitude Sports can be accomplished in the coming weeks so that local and regional sports fans will be able to watch and support these professional teams.  Please Don't Block Altitude!!  We don't want to have to search for other carriers.  Thank you.

When considering my entertainment services, the ability to watch Colordo Avalanche game was  a huge factor in my decision.  I went with Xfinity. In refusing to carry Altitude, they are breaking their contract with me. I am reexamining my options.

Why does my bill include a seperate monthly line item called a regional sports fee? Xfinity is charging me for a nonexistent service since they no longer carry Altitude.

Re: Altitude Sports

I am beyond exasperated that Comcast has dropped Altitude Sports. I have been a customer for over 30 years and pay about $210 per month for tv,internet, and phone service. If course the rates continue to climb. When I am no longer able to watch the Nuggets and Avs, who are , by the way, the only pro sports teams in the region who continue to excel each year, I am really disappointed. Also consider this, Altitude provides sports coverage to 10 states - that's 1/5 of the United States !! Please reconsider this decision and get Altitude back on the air.

The Avs will appear five times on NBCSN's "Wednesday Night Hockey" and once on NBC. They will also play other games on NBCSN and NHL Network, but most of those will be blacked out in the Avalanche home territory. See the following for NBC Sports' coverage this season: http://nbcsportsgrouppressbox.com/2019/08/06/nbc-sports-to-air-109-games-during-2019-20-nhl-regular-...

Re: Don’t block my Altitude

This is disingenuous.  Altitude offered to keep the same contract that they've had for years and Comcast said no, so please don't sell us this like this move means that our bills will go do down, or accepting it would mean bills would increase.

If you want to try to claim that you made some fair offer, then tell us what the offer is, or we don't believe you.  It's really that simple.
