xfi gateway activation setup is too complicated for those who do not use or own a smart phone or device

For some reason, I cannot find this activation app to download on my desktop pc to activate my new X-Fi gateway. As a senior and disabled person who is on a fixed budget and a fixed income, it is impossible for me to buy a smart phone or make the monthly payments to use it. To complicate matters, I just upgraded from my slow Wi-Fi to Wi-fit complete which requires exchanging gateways. I have been told that I cannot activate my new gateway without this app. How can I do this when there are no apps to download to my desktop pc? When I disconnect my current gateway, all of my desktop PCs will be off line. when connecting the new gateway, I cannot be sure that connecting it would give me online access via my desktop PC to fully activate it without an app. No one including the Xfinity robot are with most of the answers to my questions. The enclosed device information was too incomplete to be considered useful. it is very frustrating when you have a lot of relevant questions and their is not anyone there to answer them.

Give this automated device activation line a shot: 1-855-652-3446. Even if the automation fails, you then get connected to an advanced repair representative rather than a tier 1 phone rep.

Or this website;

Did you ever try calling that device activation line phone number that I supplied ?

The only phone that I had was a Digital Voice landline phone which would not be actively connected when changing out my gateways.

I tried to install my new gateway today and a single webpage option appeared on my PC prompting me to activate it by downloading an App to my smart phone. Since I do not own a smart phone to download this App I had no other options were given. My desktop computer was off line and my phone wasn't working. There were no other options listed or available so, I was forced to reinstall my old modem to get back on line.  The new modem was on and when I selected the Network listed on My PC it opened that one page for downloading this smartphone App. I cannot afford to buy a smartphone and I cannot afford the monthly expense of having one. Comcast/Xfinity should know how inconvenient it is not to have options. It is like they are trying to force me into buying something I cannot afford and that I do not need. If I cannot get this resolved, I will have to return the modem and keep the old one.

Since I do not own a smart phone and have no desktop PC internet access to activate it with the new gateway connected, my only option was to call for an appointment with a technician to come to my home to setup and activate this new gateway with their smart devices. Opening the network from for the new gateway from my desktop PC will open a dysfunctional Smartphone download app site with no access to the rest of the Xfinity website or its links. This gateway is only designed to function initially by only using a smart phone to access the network and not a desktop pc. after the smart phone and app activates the gateway then, I can setup my desktop pc for internet access. So, for anyone without an available smart device, a technician with a smart device must be called in to assist in the activation of a gateway. A regular desktop PC tower etc. with Windows 10 or 11 does not qualify as a smart device and it will not download smart device activation apps. None of the App stores will download these them to my desktop pc.

Hello @user_e817c3, thank you for taking the time to reach out to us on the forums. I am sorry to hear you had such a hard time getting your services activated this is not the experience we want you to have at all. You should not need a smartphone to activate your service, but it is one of the options available for activating equipment.

Was the technician able to get your services up and running for you when they came out to your home?

I no longer work for Comcast.

Yes, a technician called me this morning (in lieu of a visit to my home) and he asked me to disconnect my old gateway and then connect my new gateway. He activated it remotely and I was able to get on line and complete the activation process. Now, I am connected to the internet with my new gateway. The initial only problem was that my digital voice phone was not working until I contacted an agent on line to reactivate my phone connection. Everything is working fine now. All of my desktop PCs, my Ps4, and my smart TVs have been programmed to work with my new Wi-Fi connection.
