XB8 - has anyone been successful placing a Farady Cage to block wifi interference from it ?

I was surprised to see so many WiFi being broadcasted from the XB8 (and previously XB6). I wanted to disable all the WiFi.

I do have Ubiquiti gears at home, no need of their surveillance. Though, I have not been convinced by the officially supported modem for their next gen speed tier, and as upon signing there was the rental for free, and only $10 more a month for the xFi Complete just for the no data cap, I thought, let's go with the XB8. This only to realize that it takes a ridiculous minimum 24Hr to disable the Xfinity WiFi hotspot (if it ever disables it from my XB8).

I still have 5 hidden networks, and 2 that are named "xfinitywifi", which I believe is for the public hotspot, open network, and a "XFINITY" network with a WPA2-Enterprise security, which my free phone line can connect to. I guess it's good for wifi calling and data.

Per my understanding, these hidden networks, I would not be surprised if one would be for xFinity technicians, and per what I read, it's for Home Security devices.

In a  way, I am wondering how many of these gateways are out there, using radio signal for nothing. The global electric consumption it represents must be tremendous.

I had two ideas, dismantling the box to physically disconnect the wifi components, or placing a Faraday Cage.

In a closed topic, two suggested that. (‎XB8 Gaeway - how to disable Hidden Networks | Xfinity Community Forum)

Has anyone ever been successful with a home made faraday cage ?

If someone was successful, can they share theirs and how the made it ?

Thanks

Hey @user_87jrsk,

Thank you for visiting our official Xfinity Community Forums support page. Thanks for letting us know of your experience with our XB8 cable modem. It may not be possible to disable all wireless broadcasting from the modem. You can enable bridge mode and attempt to log into the main Admin GUI to see if it allows access to disable the radio's.

You can access the Admin Tool using the following steps:

1. Visit Admin Tool at http://10.0.0.1.
2. Username: admin / Password: password

If the rental equipment is not working to fit your needs, you always have the opportunity to purchase your own cable modem and return the modem rental. You would lose any discounts that are applicable to the device. You can view supported devices by visiting our Use approved third-party equipment for Xfinity Internet and Xfinity Voice support page for any additional information.

Well I. Never tried that, but I have used the xb8 as a stand alone router, it was mb8611 into a asus rtax86u into the xb8, I by passed the modem part of the xb8, it’s definitely not plug and play, but can be done, I have/had Xfi complete, it took awhile before they figured out I wasn’t using the xb8 as I was supposed to, then they removed the Xfi complete, I just hooked it up normally and got Xfi back, I basically used the xb8 for its WiFi 6/wifi6e capabilities, but the fact they couldn’t see the xb8, I am not sure about the broadcasting of the hidden WiFi signals, but the regular WiFi signals worked as expected….
