Xb8 connectivity issues

Just recently upgraded from our asus modem to the xb8. Since switching i've had an issue where the wifi will still be on, but devices lose internet for 5-10 seconds. This happens on my phone a good bit, but the problem is most noticeable on my computer as web pages won't load or i'll be kicked from online games. The computer is connected via ethernet, but the problem still happens on wifi as well. This problem did not happen on the old modem and restarting the xb8 did not work, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, @user_d39093! Have you checked the physical connections for loose fittings or damage? For example, have you attempted to swap the ethernet cable or removed any splitters attached? I would also run a speed test https://speedtest.xfinity.com/ to ensure you are getting the full speed of the connection.

@XfinityThomasC There are no loose or damaged connections and no splitters attached, I am using the ethernet cable I had prior to getting the xb8 and I did not have the issue beforehand. The internet speed is fine, but one thing i noticed is that when my internet lags out and i get disconnected, my ping spikes up to 5000. I tried the advice of another thread where they recommended disabling stateful under ipv6, but it didn't work so i reenabled it.

The first few days with the xb8 I was going through the same thing. I honestly thought I’d made a mistake switching to Xfinity from my other provider.

Anyway, I moved the modem to a very high bookshelf that happened to be in the room and I’m not sure if it helped but my Wi-Fi issues went away. I can’t speak for the hardwire portion since I’ve never had anything plug in besides a phone.

I thinking doing those first few days the modem might have been updating and doing provisioning. Either way my xb8 has been solid after that first week.

@SRTology don't think it's just updating sadly as i've had it for almost 2 weeks now and the issue still persists.

@user_d39093 Shoot! I'm sorry to hear it's not updated. Let me take a look on my end and see what's going on. We may need to get you a new modem. To begin, can you please DM your name, and full service address?

Click "Sign In" if necessary
Click the "Direct Messaging" icon at the top of the page (looks like a text bubble)
Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon
Type "Xfinity Support" in the "To:" line and select "Xfinity Support" from the drop-down list which appears. The "Xfinity Support" graphic replaces the "To:" line
Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window
Press Enter to send it

@user_d39093 - To their point about placement, have you reviewed the ways to Position Your Gateway Like a Pro? There still may be something you can do on your end, if you're not ready to have us troubleshoot with you yet.

The XB9 gateway is set at WPA3 by default. The security setting may be to high. I would change the gateway setting to WPA2. Gamming usually requires WPA2.
