XB8 2.5 gig ports

Does the xb8 still only have 1 2.5 gig Ethernet port? If I put it in bridge mode does it default to the 2.5 gig port?

Thanks for your interest in the supersonic XB8 modem. This is our list of modem specifications https://comca.st/3PO6tfy. It shows 4 Gigabit Ethernet Ports but does not specify if one of them is a 2.5 Gig port.

@XfinityMichelle yes and that listing is incorrect.

I am very sorry that you found the details to be incorrect? Can you advise exactly what you found to not be accurate?

@XfinityMichelle on the box for the XB8 it clearly states the there are 3 x1 Gbps and one 2.5 Gbps port on the device. Is their firmware or a boot file that enables the 2.5G Gbps speed on the XB8? Otherwise I am paying for speed that my device will never be able to offer… This almost as shady as using the words up to in your SOA. This a real problem and it needs to be addressed.

"In addition to Wi-Fi 6, Comcast says the new router has four dual-band antennas that support both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, one 2.5 Gbps Ethernet port, three 1 Gbps Ethernet ports (the previous version had two), and Bluetooth LE and Zigbee radios to connect to IoT devices."

@EG that says the previous version only had two 1 gig ports which is also not true.

It's too bad Comcast is so secretive with their hardware it's impossible to know the actual specs. I didn't even know it had a USB C port until I got it because that's not documented anywhere and I'm not sure if it's for network storage or what. I don't even see a way to update the firmware.

@EG oh that's why, this article is about the xb7 not the 8.

Yep. My bad, sorry. The fact that the XB8 has a 2.5 port is true anyway !

Nope. An end user can't update the firmware manually. They are responsible for keeping the firmware updated through their backend access to the device.

And AFAIK. The port with the red colored stripe next to it is the 2.5 gig port.

@EG A tech told me that the fourth port with the orange line was not available. It only carries 1gbps .  There is no true way to get to >1000 mbps from the xb8.  I am disappointed that Xfinity would lie to customers in this way. It suggests that they have not been challenged on this with the PUC/FCC.  Maybe that should be the next step to get truth in advertising to be in forced.  The words “up to” are protective language to insure that Xfinity can never be challenged about what you actually receive.  It is like saying paying for 100 lbs of sand means you get 90 lbs but you can still be charged for 100.

Not that anyone here has ever seen such a thing, but is it possible the tech was in over their head and didn't really know what they were talking about?

just wonderin.....

@user_b976e0  I can understand the concern based on what you were told and the 2.5 GB port can do over 2 GB. I can get almost 1.5 GB with my 1.2 GB service. The device requirements to get top speed are steep. Let me know what is going on and we can work on it.
