WiFi connections show as "wired" in Xfinity App

We have two Pods as well as MOCA turned on for our network.  There are multiple devices that show as "Wired" on the Xfinity App that obviously aren't wired.  i.e. an iPhone is not a wired connection no matter how you slice it.  But the app is showing as Wired.  I suspect somehow it is getting mixed up with the MOCA pieces of our network but am unsure and it makes diagnosing other problems difficult.  Any help or guidance is appreciated.

First. Is there a PoE (Point of Entry) MoCA filter installed on the coax line leading to the input port of the very first splitter ?

Yes.  There is a GLF-1002 filter on my setup.

Hey @kf08844, Thank you for visiting our official Xfinity Forums Community support page. We greatly appreciate you taking the time to share your experience regarding the Xfinity xFi Gateway and devices. I would be more than happy to offer my assistance looking into this further for you.

Could you please describe your network in more detail for me? Are you strictly using only the the Xfinity xFi Gateway or do you also have other additional third-party networking equipment such as a personal MoCA adapter, personal Access Points (APs), and more?

Using your Apple iPhone as an example that is showing wired, please describe how its is currently connected to the network. Are you connected directly to the wireless network coming from the Xfinity xFi Gateway or is there more networking gear that goes between a direct connection from the iPhone to the Xfinity xFi Gateway?

@XfinityDemitrius  I have two Xfinity pods that are connected to the XB7 leased gateway.  I have a Moca box that is in our upstairs bedroom that broadcasts ann additional wireless network that I set up before I got the pods because range up there was bad.  I also have two moca adapters that are used for TiVos so I don’t need to rely on the wireless range.  I only have devices connected to to the main wireless network being broadcast by the gateway. Various devices, like an iPhone, sometimes show “wired connection” even though they can’t be since there is no Ethernet cable involved, but the also don’t seem to be connected to a mocha device either. Hope this helps clarify.

Thanks @kf08844, I appreciate the details. Do you happen to know if the WiFi Boost Pods are connected to the modem via Ethernet for Ethernet backhaul to provide a more reliable and faster connection?

Also, with the third-party MoCA adapters, one should be connected to the modem in order to provide a connection from one MoCA adapter to the other. This should be hardwired most likely. With the MoCA adapter being hardwired anything connected to that MoCA device would also show as being hardwired to the modem.

An example would be the Xfinity xFi Gateway hardwired to your MoCA Adapter. The device will not have an understanding of the devices connected to the MoCA adapter if you have another wireless access point connected. So as an example, if your Apple iPhone is connected to the wireless access point connected to your MoCA adapter, our tools will not detect that and assume its a hardwired device as the MoCA adapter is just a pass-through device. Anything that is connected to the hardwired MoCA adapters will show as a hardwired device.

If you removed all your third-party equipment, and verify that the Apple iPhone is connected to the Xfinity xFi Gateway wirelessly, does the device details show that it is connected wirelessly?

Our two Pods are not hard wired at all.  They are plugged into outlets on the 2nd floor.  There are three MOCA components on the network.  A MOCA router that is not directly wired to the gateway       , but rather sits on the upper floor plugged into a coax jack and therefore connects to the network over the coax.  That broadcasts a separate 2nd floor wifi network.  Then there are 2 MOCA adapters by two of our TVs that have TiVos plugged into them.  But I think I understand what your saying in that there could be some confusion over the network if connected through a pass thru device.  This isn't a performance problem really, it was just confusing people in the house when it said "wired" when in reality it wasn't.  As of this moment every device in my WiFi tab of the app is either connected to "Gateway" or one of the two pods, so it appears to have resolved.  I did reboot the router yesterday so perhaps that recalibrated everything.  Thank you for your responses.

Absolutely kf08844, my colleague is on the money here, I have been working with him for almost 10 years, and I am always impressed with his ability to think outside the box on this style troubleshooting. Happy to know that everything is sorted out! It is always a pleasure to help.
