Wifi Calling unstable on Xfi gateway?
Hello,
I switched from a motorola modem that i owned to an Xfinity Xfi plan with the xfi gateway. Surprisingly the modem has been really great with speed and coverage for both 5ghz and 2.4ghz in my house. BUT one thing I have noticed was that when I have Wifi Calling enabled on my android phone it will work for a little while and then if someone tries to call me it will go straight to voicemail. Sometimes if I am on a wifi call it will also drop said call. Lastly, there are also times I have to call out 2 or 3 times before it will actually connect.
I am working from home currently in my basement and for whatever reason cellular just isn't what it should be. Before with my old modem I could rely on Wifi calling but now i'm stuck and I don't know whether i'll get a call using regular cell service OR if i'll get a call being on wifi calling.
I had a galaxy s10 that had these issues. I then switched to a Samsung Galaxy s20 in January and I am getting the same sort of behavior. Cell network is tmobile.
Does anyone know of anything I can try withint the modem to troubleshoot? Never knowing if people are calling me is not good when I have to work all day.

That's tough when you can't see the wireless interface low level statistics/errors/retransmits on either device. There's not much to look at.
Maybe on the phone, forget the 5G network so it won't connect to that, and see if just connecting to the 2.4G works any better. In theory, 2.4G should have better range and penetration through surfaces, but maybe not, and then try the 5G alone.
Also, if you are not in the basement, and closer to the gateway is it any better? If that's true, maybe moving the gateway around even stringing cables across the floor for a temporary test? Maybe set a different wifi channel if you are getting interference? https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/change-wifi-channel-xfinity-xfi
You can use a free utility like Acrylic Home Wifi to scan radios around you and do a site survey. Try 2.4G channel 1, 6 or 11 since they don't overlap in 2.4 to 2.47Ghz. Whatever there isn't anything else on......
Anyone else got anything??

Oh....one more thing. If you've got a printer like a newer HP, get that thing far away from your gateway. Ran into a weird thing with a Direct-AD-HP radio that was interfering with a Netgear right next to it.

I will connect to my 2.4ghz for the day and see if there is any difference. So I am on my desktop in my basement. I have a wifi card with an antenna. The signal is surprisingly great. I play online games with no latency issues and can pull over 600mbps on speedtest.net on my 600mbps connection.
I just find it strange that I can push my wifi signal to the limit along with every other device in my home (tablets, phones, laptops, xbox..etc) and nothing seems to slow the network down. But wifi being the breaking point of the network just doesn't feel right. The problem is I can't even think of what I could change within the modem to help me.
Someone mentioned a printer that could cause radio issues. I have a wifi canon printer but that's it. I've even been looking into wifi calling ports but ports either work or don't work so i don't know what can be done there either.
Thanks for the input. If you can think of something else let me know! I don't know if I would get anywhere with xfinity phone support over this issue but I wonder if anyone else on this forum has had the same issue with this particular xfi gateway.

This seems to have happened to me as well. We switched from CenturyLink to Xfinity a few months ago, and right around the same time Wi-Fi calling started going out intermittently on both of our phones. We have calling over wifi set as preferred, but when there is no cellular signal, Wi-Fi calling still doesn't work. The speed everything else in our house is getting is >200mbps. I have been on the phone with xfinity and my mobile carrier for hours to no avail.

FWIW. From what I've been seeing here for quite some time now, there are more *pitfalls* to doing that (combining bands) than there are "benefits". YMMV....

Hello, We're having similar issues with WiFi calling with our Galaxy S20+ phones. Many dropped calls while connected to WiFi. It seems like it's gotten worse since we moved to the Xfi modem/router. We have very poor cell coverage in our apartment/home offices. Should we return the Xfi modem/router and get the older tower from Xfinity?
