WiFi calling is NOT reliable

I have been having regular issues with WiFi calling and receiving TEXT Messages on my network.  Many times calls are not received when on WiFi calling and inbound TEXT messages do not get through to my phone or my wife's phone.  When expecting a text message I can wait and wait but as soon as I turn off WiFI, the text message comes through.  In addition, When trying to make a call on WiFi, I get a connection error and then the phone won't make a call.  I need to shut off WiFi and then turn it back on again and then the call will go through.   I live in an area were cell coverage is very week and we depend on WiFI Calling to receive Calls and Texts.  When haaving calling issues, I have perfect access to websites and can make a call with What's App of send e-mail messages...  No other issues... Just the WiFi calling and Texting channels appear to be having issues.

also if I put phone in airplane mode, I still have same WiFi calling issues

Thank you for reaching out to us @user_5555e6! Our team can certainly assist with this WiFi Calling issue. Could you please confirm the brand and model of the phone you are using? We will also want to make sure Location Services is enabled for WiFi Calling.

it’s an iPhone 15 pro max running iOS 17.7.2

what do I check to answer your comment “… to check. Location Services is enabled for WiFi Calling” ?   Location services are on. But is their a specific app as I don’t see an entry in the list for WiFi calling?

Thank you for confirming that @user_5555e6! When taking a look at the steps for an iPhone 15 Pro Max. Enabling Location Services is not a required step. To switch on Wi-Fi Calling, the steps are:
Go to the Home screen. Choose Settings.
Scroll down. Choose Phone.
Choose Wi-Fi Calling.
Turn on Wi-Fi Calling on This iPhone.
Choose Enable.

With these steps completed, the next step is making sure the device is on the latest software version. Could you please update the iPhone 15 Pro Max to iOS 18.1.1?

Phone is iphone 15 PRO Max, running iOS 18.1.1.   Note same problems occurred when running iOS 17     Also my wife's cell phone is an iphone 14 and it too exhibits the same issues.

@user_5555e6, Does this happen on any Wi-Fi network or just your in home network? Have you tried reaching out to Apple to make sure your Wi-Fi calling is normal? Can I have you Disable WiFi on your phone, and make sure your GSM Cell Data is Enabled, then go to Wifi Calling (under your eSim) or your SIM, then Choose Enable WiFi Calling. If it is enabled already, then disable it & re-Enable it again. WiFi calling must send the signal back to GSM operator to acknowledge that WiFi Calling is active.
