WAN aggregation w/Arris T25 and ASUS Router
I just set up a new ASUS RT-AX88U wireless router, which happens to support WAN link aggregation (and dual WAN as well). I'm using an Arris T25 eMTA and have 1.2 Gbps internet service. The fastest speed I've ever had up til now (via Speedtest) is 946 Mbps down/42 Mbps up.
I read up a bit on this and did the following:
- went into the ASUS router config pages and under Advanced Settings/WAN turned Enable WAN Aggregation ON
- went into the T25 config page and set Link Aggregation ON
- connected Ethernet cables between the ASUS WAN port and Arris port #1, and the ASUS port 4 and Arris port #2
- rebooted both devices
Both devices were showing successful WAN link aggregation. And my speed via Speedtest was... 946 Mbps down/42 Mbps up.
In other words - not a lick of difference.
I also tried Dual WAN setup with Load Balancing turned on - that also had no effect; in fat, the ASUS config pages claimed no DHCP was coming from the T25 Port #2.
So I guess it's just not possible to realize "true" 1.2 Gbps speeds at this tier given current hardware?

Hi, @alanh220. Thanks for the details about your setup. We guarantee up to 1.2 with our XB7 gateway and with your own hardware we can't guarantee it. I get 1.29 GB down with my XB7(2.5gb port on motherboard and gateway+CAT 7) and one good thing is for us to check the speed to the gateway to make sure 1.2 is being sent. I didn't see you mentioned your device's ethernet port. It is recommended to have a 1gb+ ethernet port and to use CAT 6 cable at least. I understand link aggregation is supposed to be the solution to create 1gb+ and I just wanted to make sure of the details on the connection. You are running into ethernet overhead and this could be a limitation based on the hardware with your computer or equipment. If you have what is needed, send us a private message and we can check the boot file and speed to the gateway.
.
Provide your name and address in the message
1. In the top right corner, you'll see a little chat icon near the bell icon. Click the direct message icon
2. Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon
3. In the 'To' line, type "Xfinity Support" there. A drop-down list appears. Select "Xfinity Support" from that list (an "Xfinity Support" graphic replaces the "To:" line)
4. Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window
5. Press Enter to send it. An official employee, such as myself or whoever is first available, will respond. Thanks!

Thank you for working with us on the direct message side of things. I am glad we were able to get this figured out and were able to see it was related to the hardware as we were thinking. I am glad we can get things working well speed wise for now. If you do ever want to change your modem let us know. For any seeking assistance, feel free to check out our approved modems here, https://comca.st/3jvN6sm. If you need us for anything else, don't hesitate to send us a message.
