Unstable Upload Speed
Hello,
For 5 months at out current address we didn't seem to have any issues but for the past 2 weeks or so, our upload speed has been all over the place. The odd thing is that if I do a google speed test it will start out high and then slowly drop. Example: when I click "start speed test" it will shoot up to 40 mbps then start dropping by 1's and 2's until it's at 24 mbps. Then if I test again, it'll be at 10 mbps or lower. Then the next time I test it'll be 33 mbps.. then 15. then 5. then 35.
This is happening on all devices including our phones on wifi and PCs connected to the router/modem with ethernet cables.
At this point I've upgraded our plan to 1200 mbps down and 35 mbps up hoping to have higher speed than the fluctuation but it still bottoms out.
We have a Nighthawk Cax80
I've tried resetting the router/modem.
I've tried running Malwarebytes.
I've tried changing the coax cable.
I've even tried changing the router/modem itself.
All produce the same unstable result.
In general I don't suppose this would have been an issue but we do stream on YouTube or Twitch and the unstable upload speed Makes it impossible.
We've tried setting up tech appointments through the Xfinity assistant but they get auto cancelled because when Xfinity tests on their side everything looks fine. When I test on the Xfinity Speed Test it looks great too. Which is why I tried replacing the router/modem.
We then visited a store and had them set up an appointment for tech to come out but suddenly our upload speed stabilized. For 2 days it was perfect so we cancelled the appointment.. the next day it right back to unstable.
And yes, the download is all over the place too but it stays above 400 mbps usually so we never notice.
Does this sound familiar to anyone?
Has anyone dealt with this before and have a solution I'm missing?
