traceroute

Hi,

Due some delay in responses from websites on home computers and phones, I decided to troubleshoot with trace route just to check that the traffic is going as expected.

To avoid delays on the home router I connected the laptop directly to the modem, and I got the traceroute as shown below.

Why the first step is a [Edited: "Personal Information"] when my public IP is [Edited: "Personal Information"] and the Xfinity gateway [Edited: "Personal Information"]? (No VPNs, proxy nor any other software of that kind running in the MacOS laptop)

traceroute to example.com ([Edited: "Personal Information"]), 64 hops max, 52 byte packets

@XfinityJennifer I chat briefly with someone identified as XfinityHeather, but I could not get an answer. If you could please investigate further, that will be appreciated. Thanks.

One question for you @EG, when you ping your assigned Xfinity gateway: Do you get a successful ping or it does not reply?

@EG, I'm not getting anything useful from Xfinity support. If you have better connections or know who to talk in Xfinity you may be able to get a decent answer. Besides the issue of the internal routing (who knows what's going on there), see for example the delays on the 10.112.162.2 host, it goes to this IP two times, and is the longest delay on the route.
