Terrible Upload Speed

I noticed a change in my upload speed in early May.  I have 1.3G service and was getting 600Mbs speed for the download (which is great), and today have 1.6Mbs upload speed (which is terrible).  Earlier this year it was 30Mbs upload (acceptable).  The upload speed results in occasional large files taking several hours to transfer.

The question is what changed and why is Xfinity throttling the upload speed so dramatically and how can I fix it?

Yes, I am also seeing this behavior for the past couple of weeks. The upload speeds drop so badly that I am unable to have a conversation over a Zoom/Teams session. Other members in the meeting tell me that they can only hear every other word i say. i.e. my audio is getting nuked while uploading. I ruled out several things like wifi etc. I am now sitting next to the Xfinity router, connected via an actual ethernet cable.

Hello @user_rxz9kh, thank you for your comment. Sorry to hear that you are having issues with your upload speeds. When the issue began, were you connected wirelessly? Now that you are hardwired to the modem, are you still having issues with your upload speed?

@XfinityMarshante Turns out it was not an Xfinity issue - it was a coaxial cable fault. When I got a new router a few months back, I had used the old cable to hook it up. It worked fine for a few months and then progressively got worse. I switched it out for the new cable that came with the modem and boom, the download and upload speeds shot up to the expected numbers. Now i am seeing upload speeds of over 100Mbps.

And yes, even when connected directly via ethernet cable, i was still observing the slow data rates. This caused me to test the cable.

@user_rxz9kh, Thank you so much for sharing the update here. It’s great to hear you were able to track this down and get things back to where they should be.❤️

Situations like this can be especially frustrating, particularly when the issue isn’t immediately obvious. Cables and connections can sometimes be overlooked, even though they play a critical role in performance. Over time, wear or compatibility differences can impact speeds, so testing or swapping them out is always a smart step when troubleshooting.

I’m really glad to hear that switching to the new coaxial cable resolved the issue and that your speeds are now performing as expected, especially seeing those upload improvements. That’s a solid result.
If anything else comes up, or you ever want a second set of eyes on your connection, feel free to reach out anytime.
