Speed drops when NETGEAR r8000 connects to Xfinity
Hi experts
I recently upgraded to 1G with Xfinity and I installed XFinity Modem and used the built in wireless router . Speed is fabulous and close to 1G.
however when I connect the NETGEAR r8000 to the comcast modem and use the wireless function of NETGEAR, the speed drops by half. I have tried disabling QOS and enable and no change in speed and remains at 500Mbps.
when I run speed test from the app within the NETGEAR it shows 922Mbps but when I run it over the app on my phone, it still remains at 500Mbps.
what could the problem be?

Thank you for reaching out! It's great to hear you're getting close to 1Gbps with your Xfinity modem. Regarding the speed drop when using your NETGEAR R8000, here are a few things to check that could be causing the reduction:
Bridge Mode Check: Ensure your Xfinity modem is set to bridge mode when connecting to your NETGEAR R8000. If not, both devices may be creating separate networks, causing performance issues.
Ethernet Connection: Confirm the R8000 is connected to the modem via a high-quality Ethernet cable and plugged into the WAN (Internet) port on the router.
Device Band Connection: The R8000 has both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. Ensure your phone and other devices are connected to the 5GHz band for higher speeds.
Firmware Update: Make sure your NETGEAR router’s firmware is up to date, as older versions can affect performance.
Try these steps and let us know if the issue persists. We’re here to help ensure you get the best possible performance from your Xfinity service.
