Should I add xFI complete with XB8 to get faster uploads and unlimited data now, or wait for XB10?

Hi, I currently have the Xfinity internet 1100Mbps plan. According the broadband facts, typical upload speed is 306.02 Mbps for my location with this plan. I currently use my own modem (Arris S33), which doesn't support the enhanced upload speeds and I'm getting around 40Mbps upload. We always use more than 1.2TB of data and pay $30 for unlimited data every month.

I think it would make sense to purchase xFI complete for $25 a month to have the newer gateway that supports the enhanced upload speeds, includes unlimited data, and saves $5 a month.

My only hesitation is in the the gateway I will receive (XB8) would not support future upgrades when DOCIS 4.0 with X-Class symmetrical upload speed comes out, which will require the XB10 gateway.

1.  Just wondering, once you have xFI complete equipment, is it hard to upgrade to newer equipment?

2.  Is newer equipment prioritized to new customers rather than upgrading customers who already have equipment?  I read some posts from users who weren't able to upgrade their gateway to the newest models.

Thanks so much!

Unless you are in one of the test market areas, the XB10 *WILL NOT* be available to you until it has gone through all the testing and certification processes.  This means that you will be unable to upgrade to one for at least a year, perhaps longer.  There is no way to get around it.

There's a long way to go before everyone gets the XB10 modem. For now,  add xFi Complete

Good morning calbear88. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and situation with us about the XB10 on our Xfinity Forums page. You are going about asking this the right way, We love to help out!

Our xFi Complete is a service not specific to your leased gateway. While xFi Complete includes the cost of the gateway, it also offers unlimited data (maybe the best-selling point), and Advanced security. You would have the option to upgrade as new gateways become available, but new equipment launches are usually for specific speed tiers initially so having Xfi Complete will not guarantee you to a newly launched gateway. Currently, the XB10 is limited to customers with X-Class 500 speed tier and above. Even the X-Class 300 speed is not eligible for the XB10 at this time. So if you are making a decision on adding Xfi Complete solely on gateway eligibility and offerings for the XB10, it would not factor into your eligibility at this time.

For the second question, yes newer equipment is usually sent to new customers first depending on services ordered and device availability. That does not mean that our existing customers will not be upgraded as well depending on the service needs, and again device availability.

Overall since you are in a market with our Next Generation speeds and need unlimited data, I would add xFi Complete for the speed upgrade and the $5.00 savings for unlimited data. If you need help with making these changes please let us know. We can easily assist you with that through our forums!
