sftp traffic throttling
My side-job involves a large amount of sftp traffic. Xfinity is throttling my sftp download speeds. The host that i am downloading from is in a datacenter, so it is not an issue with their network. I can get combined sftp speeds of up to 90 MiB/s for short periods of time, then it drops to a combined speed of 15MiB/s for the majority of the time. It is NOT a problem with my local network or the network in my neighborhood, speed tests and other metrics show no issues or changes in speed when the sftp speed drops. FYI: i have a purchased modem, not an xfi gateway. I know it is some kind of program limiting it because for a while if i uploaded something periodically, the speeds would increase again for several days, however, is no longer working as a solution. How do i get you to stop throttling my sftp speed?

Hi there! We understand why the repeated drop from about 90 MiB/s to 15 MiB/s would look like SFTP-specific throttling, especially when speed tests and other traffic remain normal. Xfinity’s current network management policy states that we do not throttle lawful traffic based on the application, protocol, or port, so SFTP traffic should not be intentionally capped. You can review that here: https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/network-management-information
A standard speed test uses a different server and network route, so it may remain fast even when the path to the SFTP host is experiencing a problem. As the next step, please download the same file from the same host once normally and once while connected through a VPN. Let us know whether the speed drops to the same level during both tests. Please also confirm whether this happens with one SFTP connection or only when several transfers are running together.
Since you own the modem, please share the modem model, your current speed tier, and screenshots of the downstream and upstream signal levels and recent event log. Please hide any MAC addresses or personal information. We can review those details here first and determine whether this points to the modem connection, routing to the host, or something requiring account-level diagnostics.
