Samsung Smart TV not connected to Xfinity Wifi

My Samsung Smart TV won’t connect to my Xfinity Wifi. I just moved and have Xfinity Wifi only. The Samsung TV sees the wifi but won’t connect to it.. and yes, the password is correct. I’ve gone through a complete reset of the Samsung TV with Samsung Cust Suppt and still not working. Any advice from Xfinity forums? All other smart devices have connected fine. I’m at a loss.

This depends on the specific model of TV, and the radio in it.  Look up the model number of the TV and see what WiFi standards it can speak.  It also depends the specific model gateway you are using.

More on WiFi Standards:  https://www.lifewire.com/wireless-standards-802-11a-802-11b-g-n-and-802-11ac-816553

Can you change WiFi "standards" on Xfinity gear?  Maybe, with the phone app.  Perhaps you can downshift to 802.11 b/g/n (Separate 2.4 and 5G signals):

https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/xfi-advanced-settings   Results are mixed.  You can't change settings if you have Xfinity pods attached.

@flatlander3 Thanks. I don’t see how any of this would be any different. This TV was connected to the identical equipment from Xfinity (with the same service) in my last house and connected perfectly.

Newer Xfinity gear and firmware factory defaults to WiFi 6 ax.  What does your TV speak, and what is your Gateway set to currently?

Do you have any issues with connecting to the internet with any other devices?

I no longer work for Comcast.

@CIashworth I tried this and tried connecting to 2.5 and 5 GHz and I still had the same issue.

Hello @user_2526a8 , thank you for taking the time to reach out to our great team through Forums. I understand you started having issues with your Samsung TV after a recent plan change. I know I would be reaching out as well to find out what is going on. It is odd since all other devices are able to connect with no issues just the TV is problem. I will do all I can to help. I do not want to assume anything in troubleshooting this. To start, have you recently performed a whole system power cycle? This is where you unplug both modem and TV from power source for 5 minutes. Then, first plug in your modem first and wait for it to reconnect. Once your internet is back connected, then plug in TV. Can you let me know?  Happy to help!

Another real common one -- if your TV and gateway are speaking the same WiFi standard, is the authentication.  Another little default setting arbitrarily decided for you on newer Xfinity gateways is the encryption.  Default is now WPA3.  Many devices can't do that and only have WPA2 capability.

Both are still considered secure at this time, but the migration path is there.  Newer gear you buy will use WPA3, but you'll have a mix for quite some time.  Years likely, unless an exploit is uncovered like with WEP.

I don't know if you can change WPA2/WPA3 by logging into the gateways these days.  It probably has to be set from the phone app now too.  Look for Wireless Security settings.

This is why specific model numbers become important.  Radios and what you are trying to connect to.  Both have to agree on what is acceptable to negotiate communication.

Is there a fix for this yet? My samsung 7 series no longer connects to my xfinity box. I have had 4 coversations with xfinity support and no fix yet. I suspect concadt broke something here and wont admit it.

I recently started having  this same issue. Every device connects to Wifi except my Samsung TV. I spent hours on the phone with Xfinity and Samsung and everyone is clueless. My TV says it’s connected to the internet but when I go to Any App on the TV I get an error message stating wifi is unstable or just an error message. Wifi on my TV  was working fine until I recently upgraded my Xfinity plan. At this point I’m going to cancel the plan and go back to my internet only plan. I’ve had Xfinity for years and have had this TV for a year and half with no problems. It’s crazy that no one at Xfinity knows what to do. It’s so annoying and I am beyond frustrated.

If you have a 4K television, trying to watch 4k on You Tube, etc. is asking a lot for Wi-Fi only. Many devices can cause RF interference and block the signal. The tv needs to be connect to a gateway with an ethernet cable.
