Recurring WAN interruptions/packet loss during sustained upload: multiple gateways and local troubleshooting exhausted
Hi, I'm hoping someone from the Xfinity team can help escalate an intermittent connectivity issue that has been ongoing for several months.
I livestream regularly, and during sustained upload traffic I experience recurring network interruptions that cause Twitch to become unstable or disconnect completely. I have been live streaming since April 2022 and these issues didn't start until about Feb 2026.
This is not an OBS(streaming software) specific issue. I have tested multiple streaming applications, and during the events I have also observed packet loss/timeouts to external destinations while my local gateway remains reachable via ping tests.
The issue has been extensively troubleshot locally and persists across hardware replacements(from XB7 and 3 different XB8s) and configuration changes.
Symptoms:
During livestreaming:
-OBS reports network frame drops, with 0 frames missed due to rendering or encoding
-Twitch Inspector confirms unstable events at the same times
-Viewers experience interruption/disconnection
-External ping tests show packet loss/timeouts during the events
More recently, the issue has progressed from brief network drops to complete stream disconnects/reconnections
Historically, the interruptions frequently occurred on an approximately 10-minute cadence during sustained livestreaming, although the exact starting time varies between streams.
Troubleshooting already completed
Replaced gateway multiple times:
-XB7
-XB8
-replacement XB8
-most recently another XB8
-Replaced Ethernet cables
-Tested wired Ethernet and Wi-Fi
-Removed unnecessary coax splitter
-Xfinity technician replaced cable/connections between my residence and the outside connection point
-Tested multiple Twitch ingest servers
-Tested OBS and Meld Studio
-Tested IPv4 and IPv6
-Disabled IPv6 on the PC for testing
-Tested NIC settings and Windows network optimizations
-Tested VPN routing/split tunneling
-Tested different streaming bitrates and settings
-Confirmed OBS shows no rendering or encoding lag during the events
Signal information
Gateway signal levels have generally appeared healthy:
-Downstream SNR approximately 41–42 dB
-Downstream power approximately +2 to +5 dBmV
-Upstream power approximately 43–45 dBmV
-Very few uncorrectable codewords
This makes the issue particularly difficult to diagnose because standard modem signal readings do not appear to consistently indicate a problem.
Additional observations
I have run continuous testing to external destinations such as 1.1.1.1 and 8.8.8.8 during streams. During some streaming interruptions, external connectivity experiences packet loss/timeouts while the local gateway remains reachable without packet loss.
I have also captured PingPlotter data showing intermittent latency spikes/loss beyond the local network.
An interesting recent development is that I had several completely stable streams:
Aug 31 — approximately 3.4 hours, 0 unstable events
Sep 1 — approximately 3 hours, 0 unstable events
However, the problem subsequently returned:
Sep 3 — approximately 2 hours, 13 unstable events
Sep 4 — approximately 2.2 hours, 13 unstable events
Sep 5 — repeated instability/disconnect events, frequently occurring approximately every 10 minutes
Xfinity has also been performing maintenance work in the area(80905), so the fact that the issue temporarily disappeared and then returned makes me concerned there may be an intermittent upstream/network-side issue rather than a persistent configuration problem on my PC.
What I'm requesting
At this point, I would appreciate investigation beyond standard gateway replacement and in-home wiring checks.
Specifically, could someone investigate for:
-Intermittent upstream impairments
-CMTS/service group issues
-Node-level noise or congestion
-Intermittent packet loss beyond the modem
-Provisioning/firmware issues affecting my connection
-Any recurring maintenance or network events that could correspond with the periodic interruptions
I have spent months troubleshooting this and have replaced equipment multiple times without resolving the issue. Since the problem affects multiple streaming applications and external connectivity during the events, I believe this warrants investigation beyond another standard equipment swap.
I can provide:
-Twitch Inspector screenshots
-OBS logs
-PingPlotter results
-Continuous ping test results
-Gateway signal statistics
-Timestamps of disconnect events
-Wireshark captures
This is just getting incredibly frustrating and affecting some extra income I get through streaming. Often these drops will result in 30s-90s lag time for viewers in my stream, when the norm is about 2s. But I can just about guarantee that the problem is NOT on my end, based on everything I've tried since Feb. Speed tests show about 1000mbps download and 290mbps upload speed, unlimited data.
