proxy settings, does Xfinity block Ookla speed tests? I'm able to run speed tests on any other internet connection, even my alt wall prov.

Hello there,

For some time now, I've been having misc. issues with Xfinity; to the point where I've considered switching all together despite having a "promotional" offer. I've tried to search these forms about speed tests and other related speed issues, but none fit my description. I'm trying to speed test using Ookla, which is better for troubleshooting and finding out which servers are having issues with each other. I've made sure my proxy settings are allowing of Ookla's services. However, even when using my domain tunneling system; to, access the internet through my own domain: this should theoretically erase any issues with Xfinity poisoning my DNS queries or blocking my access to sites. However, I'm still having issues. Support isn't helping. I've deactivated Security Edge (now named "advanced security" under the home tab, so [Edited: "Language"] dumb) in the past, and that used to be my issue; my devices were just getting blocked all together. Support was claiming someone was trying to use a lot of data. Yeah, it was me trying to figure out why I'm not getting the speed I paid for. Now, it seems I can't even use other speed test tools reliably. I'm now getting automated emails, probably as evidence for later if I ever file an FTC complaint about false marketing or something like that; where they are claiming I'm getting my advertised speed. Sure buddy, the gateway is getting 2.5gig from the wall. But my brand new Mac mini right out of the box with an Intel (Apple bought their networking business) Gig LAN and it can barely push 600mbps with no other network services running, on device, and all other devices shut off.

I'm not sure if anyone else has any ideas, because I'm fresh out of them. lol xd

user_p6d3ss I appreciate you creating a post on our Community Forums. There wouldn't be any restriction on using a different speed test website. Just to clarify, have you tried running a speed test with a hardwired connection to your modem as well?

@XfinityThomasD Yes, with intermittent results. These are the results shown. I was thinking my speed problems were due to congestion because a lot of people have moved into my apartment recently, and wireless jamming is a thing. However, even when using a hardwired connection my speeds are still failing to reach close to gig speeds; in best case scenarios.

Additionally, because of advanced security and the potential of DNS poisoning; lookup failures; blocking; and slowdowns; I tunneled my internet connection through my own domain. It used to work fine, it was actually amazing; and, I was able to use all of my 2.3Gbps bandwidth Up/Down with no issues.

The usual culprits that I have tried to snuff out haven't worked, like: making sure your devices are updated, replacing old devices that are obsolete, disconnecting or turning off devices you don't use as much, performing regular application updates, scheduling router/gateway reboots, etc.

More speed tests below with a graph trend, and note: these tests were done with a Gigabit LAN Card or WiFi 6E Adapter, where speeds of at least 800-900mbps are expected. The theoretical speed for WiFi 6 is 1000mbps-1300mps, but only in best case scenarios with no interference.

Thank you frank, it seems what you mean by "signal and area health" is irrelevant. This issue is isolated to the LAN.

There are also issues of encrypted DNS traffic blocking, and not allowing the use of Apples Private Relay. I would be switching internet providers right now, no questions asked; but, that's not how the world works when you sign a 5 year contract.

I will spare the community the information overload, but even 3rd parties (ie Apple) say that this is an ISP issue. I've been through all of my diags, talked to Apple Support, which then got escalated to Senior Support. They concluded that this is still an ISP issue and my Gateway is refusing to talk to my devices or simply block them for no reason when a VPN is used.

The time cost to this issue is insane. I could have been enjoying 8gig internet with Quantum Fiber--With no issues--but oh well. Xfinity Support keeps denying their responsibility and refuses to talk to people.
