Power surge killing internet

There appears to be an issue with the cable line in my neighborhood. Every time there’s a storm, and it’s been daily lately, I get a text from Xfinity letting me know the cable is out. On top of that, I’ve lost two modems in the last week due to some kind of power surge. I don’t lose power and nothing else quits working, but the modem keeps getting fried. I think it’s the cable and not the power because the other item plugged into the same outlet is fine. It’s a two hour drive to the nearest Xfinity store and back. I can’t keep making the trip and something is obviously not right in the cable line.

Hey there, thanks for reaching out through Xfinity Forums regarding your line issues and those power surges. Do you have your modem connected to a power strip? Are you having issues with your speeds or connection when there is no storm?
