Plug Pod into Ethernet LAN Switch?

I just added an Xfinity Pod to my network to try to eliminate a dead zone in my home.  It is a V2 Pod with 2 ethernet ports.  My xFi Modem ethernet port is connected to a switch that feeds the rest of my hardwired LAN throughout the house.  My Pod is close to the switch I have in my office.  Should I connect the Pod via ethernet cable to the office switch? Does that give me any benefits to have my modem and Pod be able to communicate via hardwire ethernet connection rather than wifi?  Does it also help any wifi devices connecting to the Pod to get better throughput?   Thanks.

You are asking a great question! Connecting via ethernet is always a great idea as it will provide you with better speeds than you would get over WiFi. Here is a helpful answer provided within our xFi Pods FAQs:

What is the Ethernet port on the xFi Pod used for?
Once your Pods are installed and online, you can hardwire your xFi Gateway and/or your devices to your Pods using an Ethernet cable if you so choose. Hardwiring your xFi Gateway to a Pod gives you faster speeds and the connection is not impacted by distance or WiFi interference.

Connecting your Pod to your xFi Gateway using an Ethernet cable is especially helpful when:
  • A home has Ethernet wiring to different rooms.
  • The home is very large or has construction that may block WiFi signals (concrete or stone interior walls, metal or metal mesh in or on the interior walls).

Note: Not all xFi Gateways can be connected to your xFi Pod. For a list of compatible xFi Gateways, visit the "I’ve hardwired my Pod to my gateway, so why is the Connection Type still set to WiFi?" secition within the FAQ page.

Hardwiring your device to a Pod would give you slightly faster speeds than connecting the device to the network over WiFi.

Let me know if this helps asnwer your question or if there is anything else that I can go over with you!

I would also suggest if your going to relocate a pod so that it is hardwired I would use a device called a network powerline adapter that uses your homes powerlines to transmit data. Otherwise you will have a long cord going through your house just to install the pod. This will provide the optimal connect for that pod in the specific location that you want it. Then at that point your better off just using a better mesh network that what xfinity has to offer.

"Hardwiring your xFi Gateway to a Pod gives you faster speeds and the connection is not impacted by distance or WiFi interference."

To use the term "not impacted" is a lie. There is always interference it doesn't matter wired or hardwired. A single measurement of an ethernet connection will start dropping the quality of a line. Example: A computer is hardwired at 3ft from the router then you have another computer hardwired but at 50 or even 100 ft using ethernet there will be a drop in quality because there was a drop in single along the transmission.

It is my experience that powerline adapters dont work.  the plp2000 that i have supposedly supports up to 2 gig speed yet if i measure my speed connected to it i get about 24.7 mbps, vs if i use wifi only my speeds are near 500 mbps.   I have tried all of the outlets near my router, modem, / gateway and the powerline adapter always lets me down.  I have also tried multiple different models speeds are always slower than the wifi.
