New xFi Gateway Activation

I got an updated gateway today. Rented. My understanding is that I can use my Xfinity app to activate this new device to replace my "old" rented modem. The card in the box states to "disconnect any internet equipment currently in use." Should I disconnect/unplug my old modem before using the app? Hopefully, the app instructions will be easy to follow. I'm not tech savvy and need all the help I can get.

Thanks for reaching out, VitaminE. Yes, you should disconnect your old modem, connect your new modem, then use the app for the activation. If you run into any issues please reach out privataly and we can get you sorted out.

@XfinityAntoine​ Is xfinitywifi safe to use with the activation app? XFINITY is not now available. I need internet access to use my cell phone with the activation app.

Yes you are able to use Xfinitywifi with your cell phone. Are you able to connect?

FWIW. The xfintywifi broadcasts are the unencrypted ones. The XFINITY broadcasts are the encrypted ones.
