New Router with one SSID for 3 bands breaks wifi devices
The new supposed "better" router with one network name that can switch automatically between 2.4, 5, and 6 MHz unfortunately has disabled 2 printers, smart plugs, etc. that can only run on 2.4Mhz. The fact that Xfinity has taken away the ability to split these 3 back out is ludicrous. So, now, the only answer is to spend additional money to buy a router and switch this one to bridge mode? Unacceptable resolution guys.... please advise. I tried to disable the 5 and 6 "networks" and that didn't help. Super disappointed!

Band steering doesn't work with everything. Especially older chipsets. Can also break 802.11k, r and v and cause other comparability issues. Unknown about 802.11w (PFM frames). You don't have control of the channels or bandwidths in Xfinity rental gear either.
For that, you'd need 3rd party gear. Perhaps use your own modem/router or modem/mesh network, or access points for WiFi. Pay particular attention to WiFi standards your devices require. You would also save the $14-16 rental fee per month, depending on your market.
