Need to upgrade my cable modem- I'd like it be a smooth process

I own an Arris SB8200 and it's performing as expected. To take advantage of the new 2GB/300 plan I'm paying for, I need a new Docsis 3.1 cable modem. The Arris S34 is on the approved list and the specs say it should do the job however, I'm seeing a bunch of forum and Reddit chatter about problems with the upload speed and it's only "fixed" with a boot file update from Xfinity. Is this correct? If so, what is the best sequence of events to make the upgrade as smooth as possible. Thx!
