Need to configure XB7 gateway to allow L2TP/IPsec VPN.

If my memory serves me right, the VPN that I occasionally use worked before I upgraded to the XB7 Gateway.  I have tried all of the suggwated solutions short of port forwarding and nothing worked.  I even disable the firewall and it still won't work.  The VPN connects my Windows 11 computer to a CISCO firewall in another state.  Could this be a XB7 mproblem and I need to swap it out?

Thanks for posting on our Community Forums, user_897018. Our modem doesn’t include that feature. To access those settings, you’ll need to put the gateway into Bridge Mode and use your own router.

Unfortunately, we do not have that feature on these modems, but you are able to set up bridge mode so that you can make your adjustments.

I tried an XB8 and it didn't work either.  Purchased a TpLink router and placed Gateway in Bridge mode.  Should then be a piece of cake but it has me pulling my hair out.  Can't get bridgemode to talk to the router.  It recoginizes the cable but no internet connection.

Did you power-cycle the XB8, let it fully sync up, and then power-cycle the TP link router after you placed the XB8 into bridge mode ?

Experimented today with bridge mode to see which LAN ports were functioning.  Just wanted to verify I was connected to a live port on the gateway.  I was able to ping the gateway on all 4 LAN ports while in bridge mode until I powered off/on the gateway.  After power reseting the gateway, I lost my ability to connect.  Multiple computer reboots and several gateway reboots failed to resolve anything.  I was could not connect to the gateway and had to call customer support and have them take me out of bridge mode.  The customer support agent was able to get me out of bridge mode but that was as his technical competence went.  Fustrated.

Thank you for sharing your experience with testing out those ports, are you trying to enable the bridge mode again on your gateway now?

We see this issue often here. Try getting it swapped out for another one and see. Good luck !

Picked up a XB7 and tried Bridge mode with it.  Didn't care if it was a XB7 or XB8 since I was going for bridge mode.  Got into bridge mode and then nothing.  Could not detect any data coming through and I was unable to get back into the gateway and get out of bridge mode.  Tech support had to be called again and with that I went online and ordered a Netgear cable modem.  I am now up and running using my modem but still can't get the [Edited: "Profanity"] VPN to work.  Have played with new router settings and even some Windows 11 tweeks and so far, total failure.

@user_897018 We recommend contacting the VPN support, and having them work with the support team from your modem to continue.

I have pretty much given up for now.  Is there anything, and I mean anything, that my internet configuration could be preventing my L2TP/IPsec VPN from working?  I started out at lower speed and was bumped up a couple of times to the 400mbps that I currently have.  Some time back when I had slower speed and an older gateway, the VPN worked.  Now I am just grasping at straws.

user_897018 That is a good question. Honestly, that is above what we are trained to support.
