My internet speed (350mbps) doesn't reflect my newly update plan speed (600mbps) well after 48 hours of waiting
Hello folks,
Basically, as the subject of this post states, since updating my plan's internet speed to 600mbps, my speed hasn't changed at all (hovering around 250-350mbps downloads and 8–12mbps uploads), even when connected directly to the gateway (TG1682G) itself.
Here are the steps I've already taken to try and resolve this issue myself:
- I waited up to 48 hours to see if the changes would take effect on their own (meanwhile, I restarted my modem twice per day)
- I tested the internet speed both by WiFi & ethernet cable connected directly to modem with multiple devices (both showed the same speed (350mbps)
- I tried performing a Service to Gateway speed test but it was not working for me
- I enabled bridge mode to my Linksys Velop mesh network, this did not increase speed or latency at all
- I verified that both my modem (TG1682G) and routers support the new plan's speed (they indeed do)
- I checked my gateway & router settings for anything that could potentially throttle bandwidth in my home network — all looks good
I believe that is everything I could possibly do before contacting support, now I'm at a loss and hope Xfinity can fix this issue for me.

TG1682G = XB3 if my Googling is correct. Are you renting a gateway from Comcast? The XB3s are a bit old, but ought to be able to handle 600mbps. TG1682G is a DOCSIS 3.0 24x8 modem, and I was using one of those on a 600mbps plan 6 months ago and getting ~720. Comcast likes to replace gateways. It's one of the first things they try if there's a problem. On a 600mbps plan they'd probably upgrade you to an XB7 just because you asked. Obviously you'd have to ask.
Another thing you can do is check the signal stats and error logs on the gateway. There's a sticky post on here on how to do it: https://forums.xfinity.com/conversations/your-home-network/internet-troubleshooting-tips/602dae4ac5375f08cde52ea0 The instructions are a bit generic so you might have to click around a bit. I've never had a TG1682G so I can't help you with specifics, but they're all pretty similar. If you're not 100% sure what they mean just post them here. It's best to just copy and paste the signal stats & logs into the forum rather than taking screen shots. The forum does quite well with pasted tables and the results will be more readable than screen shots. Also be sure to redact any MAC addresses (CM-MAC, etc.) and routable IP addresses from the error log. The forum regards these as private personal information and won't allow them to be posted. I'd suggest posting the signal stats and error logs in separate forum posts.

Try plugging your ethernet into a different port, sounds wierd, but that can make a difference.
For reference on my Gig Speed I get get around 600 Mbps down and 22Mbps Down
About 40% lower than advertised.
