Motorola MT8733 issues with Upstream and downstream speeds on 2000Mbps plan

I just recently upgraded my plan and in turn replaced my Netgear C7000 to a Motorola MT8733 in order to support the increased speeds.

After a couple interactions with both chat support and phone support, all they have done is send reset signals to my modem.

There seems to be a 2 year old post from a user stating that this is likely a provisioning issue given that "the supported upstream frequency range of the Motorola MT8733 is switchable between

5-42 MHz and 5-85 MHz (sub-split and mid-split) and is not compatible with high-split (5-204 MHz). This means that Xfinity will have to provision your device either for sub-split or mid-split and not for high-split."

I've also confirmed it is not a hardware issue with Motorola.
Is there a specific customer support team that I can reach out to resolve this issue?

... 2000Mbps plan ... Motorola MT8733 ...

What speeds are you getting, and how are you measuring them?

Note that Comcast/Xfinity rates the MT8733's download speed at 2.33 Gbps, but it isn't compatible with their "enhanced" upload speeds: upload will be limited to 35 Mbps or so. Follow the "See all modems" link near the bottom of https://www.xfinity.com/support/internet/customerowned, and then check the devices listed under the "Compatible modems for enhanced speeds" heading. The MT8733 is not on that list.

Also note that the company does not yet use "high-split"; many areas have been upgraded to mid-split, and a few are still using sub-split.

The MT8733 should be able to provide the 2000 Mbps download speed you are subscribed to, but upload speed with that device will be limited.

@BruceW

Web browser based speed tests indicate I'm capped at 6mbps upload speed.

This occurs both when there is only one device on the network or multiple.

I get the following message in the website you mention above:

Motorola MT8733

Wireless Gateway

Your Plan

Download Speed: Up to 2000 Mbps

Upload Speed: 250 Mbps

Modem Status

Your modem isn’t optimized for the plan you selected

Choose a different modem for the most reliable connection.

Capping at 5-6mbps seems a bit much.

My download speeds vary (as expected) between 600-800Mbps

I must add, this is a new install (less than 1 year old) that ran absolutely fine at 1200Mbps on a previous modem.

Good evening @user_e75hg7, and thank you for reaching out on our Community Forums regarding your speed concerns. As @BruceW mentioned, the MT8733’s is not compatible with our enhanced upload speeds. You can review the full list of compatible devices at the link below:

https://assets.xfinity.com/assets/dotcom/projects/cix-4997_compatible-devices/2025.03.25%20Full%20List%20of%20Compatible%20Devices.pdf.

To help us narrow this down further, may I ask whether you’re running the speed test while hardwired or over WiFi? Additionally, are you using a personal router along with your Motorola modem?

Ohh... yes, it's definitely not on that list.

The above speeds are noticed both wired and wifi.

Thanks, @user_e75hg7. Is the wired testing being done through a personal router, or with a direct ethernet connection directly to the modem?

For any future users seeing a similar issue.

This modem was noted not compatible for the 2 gig speeds regardless of any configuration changes and resets performed.

I recommend not buying this moden for Xfinity services at these speeds and going a different route with one recommended off the list mentioned in one of these comments.
