MoCA setup w/ Xfinity XB8-T gateway

It has been a nightmare attempting to connect with a human on this question, as it seems to be too specific for any of the automated A.I. to handle via phone and chat assistant-

I have an XB8-T modem, and am attempting to configure a MoCA (Multimedia over Coax Alliance) setup to give other rooms in the house Ethernet connectivity. I've already ordered two MoCA adapters. My understanding is the XB8-T gateway has built-in MoCA feature.

I've logged into the gateway and have enabled this.

- How do I verify whether or not there a Point of Entry (POE) filter installed on the main cable line? I've been in the house for just a couple months. The previous owners were Xfinity/Comcast subscribers. Is Xfinity able to look up and see if a PoE filter is present on the home? If not, how do I go about having a tech come out to install one? From Google research, it sounds like Xfinity installs PoE filter when they set up services. I just want to ensure there isn't any outside interference from neighbors once I hook up the MoCA adapters in their respective rooms.

It has been EXTREMELY difficult to confirm this with a human representative. I am just looking to verify if there is PoE filter present on my property's main cable line, and if not, how do I go about getting it installed?

The 1-800-XFINITY service line goes silent and unresponsive once I tell AI I am looking for "technical support".

Thank you!

It is supposed to be S.O.P. (Standard Operating Procedure), but there is no guarantee that a tech actually installed a MoCA PoE filter. And a Customer Service Rep won't be able to tell you either. Take a look around the outside perimeter of your home (typically on the side or back wall). There may or may not be a junction box mounted there, or it may be mounted out in the open. Look for a grounding block with coaxial cables and a green wire connected to it. The PoE filter may be there. It looks something like this;

It's the middle cylinder with the red stripe. Also be certain that any and all spliiters that are present are MoCA compliant (5-1675 MHz). MoCA splitter

Ok, so I managed to locate the main cable line hookup on the exterior side of the house. The orange coax line goes to the street, while the black coax goes to the house. It doesn't appear there's a POE filter on this, but I could be wrong?

Thank you for the response!!

You're welcome ! Nope, there's no filter there, but they may have put one on the input leg of the first / main splitter if you could locate that and see.

@EG attachiung another screenshot to illustrate a "coax cutout" area within the partially finished basement. This cut out space has a coax line connected to a splitter, but then there's also what appears to be two coax's connected to each other on the right?

This cut out space is right beneath the main circuit box of the house, and is located beneath the exterior side of the house where all the utility boxes are (including that exterior coax connection initially pictured).

My gaming desk is right to the left of this cut out space, as I want to replace the digital splitter the previous owner left, with the MoCA ethernet adaptor.

Curious if that area where the two coax's appear to be connected to each other is where the exterior cable line links to the main splitter?

Thanks!

There's no filter there either. Just a double female barrel connector. And that splitter is not being used for anything. There's nothing connected to its input port. Just a coax line on one of its output ports that goes who knows where...

You could DIY and put a POE filter on the orange cable side of that outside grounding block like this one: https://www.amazon.com/SNLP-1GCW-Filter-Eliminate-Multi-Room-Interference/dp/B07SLD9QPH

Or you may be able to get one for free at your local Comcast / Xfinity store. Or book a tech to come out and install one for you.

@EG thanks for all your insight today. I did go ahead and order the POE filter you referenced. Going to attempt to DIY it on that outside intersection point between the orange coax (from street/post) and black coax (goes to inside house).

For my own education, and sorry if I missed it — why would it go on the orange end vs the black end for entry point?

thanks!

@XfinityKei I am still having issues. A Comcast/Xfinity tech came out this morning and successfully installed the MoCA POE filter on the coax line outside of the house. I've then logged into the XB8-T gateway, have "Enabled" MoCA function, and it says it is enabled. I've power cycled / restarted my XB8-T modem.

Regardless of all this, I am still seeing a red "X" next to the MoCA function in my XB8-T gateway interface. I'm at the end of my rope on what to do next...

I bought a pair of MoCA ethernet adapters --- The XB8-T doesn't need one of those though, right? My XB8-T modem is setup in the family room, connected via Coax to the wall, and just has an Ethernet cable going to the family room TV.

I want to enable MoCA on the basement outlet for the home office / online gaming area. So I am just not sure on what to do next after successful POE filter installation. :(

The orange cable side is the true point of entry drop line from the street / pole / pedestal, but it really doesn't matter.
